I was looking for a 99 and up dodge cummins 24 valve. I was wondering if any of you guys new anything about them and what do you think;)

I have a 12v and love it.The 24v is also a good motor the few problems watch the fuel pressure fi it drops below 5 psi kills the vp44 pump and the dowel pin in the front case will need to be adressed.I suggest if you hop it up at all look into a trans cooler and build the auto trans major weak linkYou can find alot of good reading at Diesel Bombers - Diesel Forum - High Performance, Cummins, Duramax, Powestroke, TDI great place to hang out to.

what do you know about the programmers this would be my daily driver and i want it to have some nuts

Stay away from quad boxes tech support sux.Edge with attitude is a good one you can change between programs.

Auto will blow up with stock power.

Back in 02 i purchased a new 6 speed 3500 4x4 extended cab. I use it for towing and road trips picking up cars, bowling green, oklahoma, texas ect.

I put a box, injectors, exhaust and it does great on fuel and will tow anything.

Nothing has broken on it in 7 years and 58K

Auto is nice, but a time bomb.

Noisiest vehicle on the planet next to the Dodge Viper.

After 2003 not so bad.

If your hearing is already shot then nevermind.

Compare it to a single shot Buick exhaust.

Oh, you said Daily Driver, good luck.

thats what ive heard that the autos are crap i was looking for a 5spd or a 6spd and. My hearing is already shot so iam not worried about it being noisy what its a diesel its not going to be queit

I have an 03 quad cab dually with the 24vHO and the 6spd. It has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. I bought it with 90k on it, it has 130k now and I've never had a problem with it. I put a 5" exhaust from the turbo back and a AFR cold air intake. I average around 22mpg unloaded and 18 pulling my tractor.

If you get a stick box truck don't mod it... They are quick enough stock, maybe exhaust and an intake, but once you turn them up they eat clutches... You can get cheap ones but a good South Bend is almost $2000...

uhhh i beg to differ! 58K on the stock clutch with 150HP upgrades on mine:confused:

Maybe if your going to do 3rd gear launches it eats clutches, but any vehicle would do that if you abuse it!

Hey i just bought a 2000 f-250 7.3 powerstroke today, 175K and it needs work.
Oh boy.

I'm just talking from personal experience... My buddy's 95 2500 Ram has injectors, pump work, exhaust, 0 plate, at the absolute most on a great day it's near 400rwhp, but the torque numbers are really high of course... He's put 3 brute force clutches in the truck in less than a year... I guess it all depends on how you drive, but the trucks are temperamental, once they get fun everything starts crapping out on you...lol... Sounds like a Buick, right??? LMAO...

whats better to do though get the older mid 90s cummins or get a 98 and up cummins cause i would like to do some power adders but which would be more efficient and cost less

the 12v engines are cheaper to mod fuel plates ect more bang for the buck. The 24v computer boxes arn't cheap. If you get a stick south bend is the only way to go I got one but my old clutch is still good even with my mods:biggrin: ,I don't know my dyno numbers yet,but I have a friend with a 12v pushing over 800hp and 1600fpt one nasty truck!

My 97 2500, 12 valve has 370 injectors, 3k governor spring kit, fuel plate, afc delete, rack plug, bumped timing, air dog 150, 5" exhaust, and a few other little things done... Performance wise, I have less than $1000 in it, with $500 of it being the fuel system(Air Dog)... This is a common set up and it makes almost 400rwhp, the smoke is controllable, it's dead reliable, and doesn't really affect driveability... They are awesome trucks, the 24valves 99 and up are good also, but the pumps go bad and are VERY expensive to replace... Here's a video of my truck making a pull at "The Buck" in Pennsylvania...

It's a 97... Looks a lot better now, I had it painted and did all the bodywork... It smokes a lot because of all the added fuel, bigger injectors, and such... The AFC housing controls your pre-boost fuel, so I deleted it, that way when I floor it from a stop it dumps tons of fuel and gets the smoke rolling and the turbo spooling, and the fuel plate controls your fueling once you get above 7lbs of boost, so I have my plate ground down pretty much flat...lol... That gets you the most fuel and power... So if I smack the throttle from a stop traffic won't be able to see the cars in front of them for a while...lol... But if I roll into the throttle smooth it runs pretty clean, but it moves out for what it is... It should go 14's, gets almost 20mpg, and is pretty much indestructible... It's for sale too if anybody is interested ;)

97 Dodge Ram 2500... 210000 miles, SLT(Loaded), extended cab, long bed, brand new 33" Firestone Destination A/T's, new front brakes and rotors, rebuilt trans(20 miles), Pro Torque converter, 5" exhaust, 370 injectors, 3gsk, Air Dog 150, 2' leveling kit, custom fuel plate, and I'm sure there is more that I'm forgetting... The truck was owned by a Dodge Tech since it was new, it was stock until I got it one year ago, and I've put 10000 on it since... I've gone through pretty much everything with the truck to make sure it was ok, I was going to use it to pull my car around, but I bought a Tahoe a few months ago, and having 3 cars is silly for me with the economy being the way it is... The only downfall with these trucks are the transmissions, but I had all the updates done with the rebuild, and it's so much more efficient with the new converter, which makes it run cooler and we all know heat kills transmissions... I'm looking to get $12000 obo... Thanks for looking...

Thanks :D Yea, it still has the stock HX35 on it... That's the only thing that's really holding the truck back from being really rowdy, the fuel, exhaust, RPM's and now the converter are all there... I had an HX40 for it, but it had a 18cm exhaust housing so it would of spooled really slow, and the 40's always have problems breaking the shafts, so I sold it to keep myself out of trouble... I actually raced a 24 valve truck with an HX40, stacked programmers, injectors, meth(And nitrous, but he didn't spray on me), and I still beat him...lol... He was pissed... The thing that makes my truck so fast is that I can rev the engine to 3500, instead of 2750, and it makes tons of power up there, it doesn't start pulling fuel till 3800, and revs to 4000 without a problem... It's a 3000 GSK, but my buddy that installed it adjusted it a bit higher for me, I was scared of the 4000 GSK hurting the motor, they suggest you replace the valve springs with those, so that made me nervous about wiping the cam or something else bad happening...
