I got back from my fabricator today and a new 2 1/2 integrated downpipe has been built. It fits perfectly and has no dents in it and fits with the Poston exhaust header and clears the A frame. The downpipe is a two piece which bolts together in the middle with two flanges. The people who did this is member Windmill who supplied the flange and Ultimate Exhaust in Crystal Lake Il.
The real issues are cost and having a car which my fabricator can custom fit the 2 1/2 inch downpipe or a three inch downpipe.

My cost- $150 for the flange and $700 for the 2 1/2 downpipe.
I am willing to take my car back and have a few made if anyone wants one. It is pricey when you add in shipping. Here are a few PICS. Thanks- Brad

wow $850 for the DP kinda pricey. i dont even think i paid that much for my 3in DP.well on another note it looks good. also i see you still kept the factory 4 bolt flange at the end of the dp. you have any pics of it off the car?

How much difference in spool, and performance do you think resulted from the upgrade over stock and eliminating the turbo elbow?

well that all depends on your current mods. spool is going to be better since it less restrictive but then again if you have a stock exhuast after this dp its not going to help much. list your mods. could help none could help .5 tenths

The performance upgrade was more than I thought. The turbo outlet on the stock turbo and the TA33 is 2 inches. That is why I went with the 2 1/2 inch downpipe. I was running 20 lbs boost with my old 2 1/2 downpipe which had dents by the Poston header and the A frane. The new one I had built eliminates these dents and is a clean shot to the test tube. It also eliminates the stupid turbo elbow used on all Buick 3.8 turbo engines. The turbo elbow is only 2 inches in diameter and is a piece of crap with the sharp angle.

The bottom line is that before the new downpipe I maxed out at 20 lbs boost. I am now hitting 24-25 ibs boost without adjusting the waste gate actuator. In my case this downpipe fits my goals for my car. The reality is that putting on a bigger turbo is very expensive which is needed to build 3 inch downpipe for a Hot Air..

My fabricator could easily build the 3 inch downpipe but the cost would be $1350 and he would need your car. He just did it with the same flange on an 89 TTA-member DVERNST.

If anyone wants to buy one of these downpipes I am willing to take orders for one time only. This means my fabricator will use my car as the model and each downpipe would be custom built to fit my car. The cost would be $850 for the downpipe, $25 handling plus shipping. Thanks- Brad

looks good but damn i still cant get over that price.

what would be the price for the flange ?? i am thinking that if i had the flange i could get the rest fabricated locally

Downpipe

Hey Brad,
That Downpipe Looks Very Efficient And Well Worth The Investment. I Wish I Could Buy One But I Cant Afford It Right Now.
Great Pics By The Way.

The flange can be bought from member Windmill for $150. Look at my PIC of the downpipe because the shaft for the waste gate actuator rod is a little too tall which causes slight rubbing on the hoodliner. Make sure when you order the flange you have Windmill shorten this rod.

Since the price is high ( I choked when I had to pay up) only one person is interested in buying one but not for a couple of months due to cash flow. I have to take my car back to the fabricator( I will gladly give out his name and number) due to a cracking drivers side header. I will then have my header fixed and have the other members new downpipe built.

I am only doing this once for the few who really want one because I am not in the downpipe business. I will say that with my mods. it was worth the cost within my budget. Take-care- Brad

flanges

I have drop the price on the internal flanges to 120.00 shipped. When another guy started making these that i bought the puck assembly from, i was just going to get my money back out of these. So all what i have left is all i'm going to sell, will be no more from me. thanks, for the guys that has bought them from me.

Are these downpipe flanges still avaliable? I'm interested in one so I can have my local exhaust guy make me a downpipe. Thanks Jim
