Just curious if you do? I am 34 years old and for about 10 years I have had a few cases where my heart ponds 1 or 2 beats a day real hard. Enough to take my breath away at times (no ,, not when I romp the GN;) )). I am going to see a new cardiologist and he said we may be able to help these with medication or a surgery:eek:  where they carterize the area in the heart thats misfiring and puts it back into a normal pattern of beating. I may go a few weeks with no problems then a few weeks with skipped beats etc. Just curious if you or any friends or family have had this?
Thanks
Ty

PS-Its nothing that I cannot live with,,its just sometimes annoying!

Yeah, i get palpatations every once in a while. I'm 18, and my father has them, and my grandmother as well so, i guess i just got lucky with the genes. It stems from a heart murmur i have. Being a bit of a hypochondriac, it used to freak me out really bad, i've been to a few doctors over the years about it, and they even made me wear a monitor thing for it for 24 hours. It really is more annoying than anything though. I was "diagnosed" with something called orthoscopi.....something, What happens is when i lay down my heart rate slows down to low 50'sish, but if i get up rapidly can shoot upwards of 90 or so for a few seconds  I was also told that medication or surgery wasn't really used unless it was pretty serious, not much i can do about it i guess.

I have PVC's (premature ventricular contractions) brought on by caffiene. I just have to lay off of caffiene and it is fine. I know what you mean by annoying.

Yep, I had a PE study done.
Where they go in thru the Femaur arteries, and use some radio freq electrodes to deaden some nerves in the heart.

I had episodes of where my pulse would run up over 200 bpm. Passed out a few times, from it.

Was a PITA getting everything done. Of course it wouldn't misbehave when they wanted it to. It got to the stage of they put me in ICU for some serious testing. They were able to chemically induce the heart racing. Of course once it started it wouldn't stop, so they defribulated me. That was nasty but all the other stuff was no big deal.

I'm on 2 meds for it now, and only once in the last year had a problem. And that may have been just a real minor case of dehydration.

Best of luck on getting it taken care of.

I get it every once in a while, especially when I get up or lay down quickly. Its like you said It takes your breath away. I used to get it all the time (extra beats) and it use to be painful, but I havent gotten it in awhile. Im 32 and workout 5 days a week, so I know Its not from being out of shape.

hey

mine comes and goes also, usually tied to stress:( i would imagine,,,who knows.

Maybe I need to buy that TTA to make me feel better:D  :p

AT - Atrial Tachacardia (I know, spelling!) diagnosed 6 yrs ago. Mainly comes on during high stress, both physical and emotional. Heart rate jumps up to 220 or so, then continues to spazz out from a few minutes to several hours. Will be on CoveraHS until I can convince my doctor to order the ablation procedure...

FWIW, occasional PVC's are normal is most people. Most of us have them occasionally and never even know it, however, they are troublesome and can really be scary at times. Mine feel like I have something stuck high up in my throat and takes my breath away. They come and go as another poster described. I've had every test under the sun: Multiple 12-lead EKG's, 24 hour Holter Monitoring, 3D Echocardiograms, and even a Nuclear Medicine procedure called a Mugga Scan. Nothing ever turns up. Mine seem to occur when my life is uneven, or I am under more stress than I can honestly handle. Caffiene makes it worse. However they become a real problem when other arrythmias come into play. Atrial Tach and especially SVT or SupraVentricular Tach are actually emergency situations as they can progress further if not treated. At 200 BPM, your heart is not pumping blood effectively and the rate needs to be treated. I have a friend that had the ablation procedure done with great results. Of course this is usually done secondary to trying Pharmacological tx. If you haven't already, go see a good Cardiologist and have a workup. It will ease your mind.

Thanks Mike

I am seeing the cardiologist July 2nd, and as some on this board know I REALLY liked my beer for the last 10-15 years and just quit that about 2 months ago (and am still off:) ) So maybe quitting drinking is affecting by my heart adjusting to a new lifestyle!!??
