My original point was, dipstick tube goes here: It's obviously missing and has been for quite some time.

In the FWIW dept:
You don't use sealer on a silicone gasket. They go on DRY.
I tie the gasket to the pan w/ dental floss. Once all the bolts are started, I clip it, and remove...

Oh crap :(, well it's not leaking now so I guess when it starts I'll do it correctly.

most of anything that was supposed to be connected to the engine I noticed was loose and leaking (oil dipstick there, valve cover gaskets, tranny pan gasket [original still], and oil pan gasket which was changed by previously owner).
