good point dh.....many ancient have been cleaned and rightly so because of the encrusting centuries.I guess there would be no way other to scrub them down or sent them to a conservator for cleaning. I have used an electrollisis method on coins found with my metal detector with mixed results.but considering that ancients are fairly common with a few {many}exceptions a cleaning probably would be ok since they really cant be identified if they are that bad.
dont clean your coins!!!
