Last week police were called to investigate an attempted armed robbery:

The 71-year-old retired Marine who opened fire on two robbers at a Plantation, FL, Subway shop late Wednesday, killing one and critically wounding the other, is described as John Lovell, a former helicopter pilot for two presidents. He doesn't drink, he doesn't smoke, he works out everyday.

Mr. Lovell was a man of action Wednesday night.

According to Plantation police, two masked gunmen came into the Subway at 1949 N. Pine Rd. Just after 11 p.m. There was a lone diner, Mr. Lovell, who was finishing his meal. After robbing the cashier, the two men attempted to shove Mr. Lovell into a bathroom and rob him as well. They got his money, but then Mr. Lovell pulled his handgun, opened fire. He shot one of the thieves in the head and chest and the other in the head.

When police arrived, they found one of the men in the shop. K-9 units found the other in the bushes of a nearby business. They also found cash strewn around the front of the sandwich shop according to Detective Robert Rettig of the Plantation Police Department.

Both men were taken to the Broward General Medical Center, where one, Donicio Arrindell, 22, of North Lauderdale died. The other, 21-year-old Frederick Gadson of Fort Lauderdale is in critical but stable condition. A longtime friend of Lovell was not surprised to hear what happened. The friend said, ''He'd give you the shirt off his back, but he'd be mad as hell if someone tried to take the shirt off your back''.

Mr. Lovell was a pilot in the Marine Corps, flying former Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. He later worked as a pilot for Pan Am and Delta.

He is not expected to be charged, authorities said ''He was in fear for his life,'' Detective Rettig said, 'These criminals ought to realize that most men in their 70's have military backgrounds and aren't intimidated by idiots'.

Something tells me this old Marine wasn't 'in fear for his life', even though his life was definitely at risk. The only thing he could be charged with is participating in an unfair fight. One 71 - year young Marine against two punks.

Two head shots and one center body mass shot - outstanding shooting! That'll teach them not to get between a Marine and his meal.

Don't you just love a story with a happy ending?

Thats a great story. About time criminals get what they deserve.....but Im pretty surprised hes not getting thrown in jail with the way our justice system works.

Right on!

That's great. Glad we have a concealed carry law these punks think they can prey on anybody would have loved to seen their face when Grandpa Marine pulled his piece to their surprise a Kodak moment.

Good thing about FL is now you can shoot first then scream later, almost caught up to MI where you can just shoot, kick the carcass in the ditch and be on your way:)

punks

they got what they deserved and hopefully the other one if he survives learns his lesson and never attempts to rob or hurt anyone else. If he does not survive oh freaking well. Boo hoo. Screw the tree huggers and the human rights activist. Victims normally don't have rights and get taken advantage of so I am glad that former marine took care of business or they could have become another statistic like many before who have been executed so as to not leave witnesses. The marine deserves a medal for that.

The only way it could be a better story is if both scums were dead when the cops arrived. Save the taxpayers some money trying to save them.

First shot to the nutz.. Then, when he drops over in agony, the second is in the top of the head, exiting out his azz..
Good rid if the other loser goes tango uniform. Another 50K a yr we save keeping him in the cell.

Gotta love that CCP! Something similar happened last year in Seattle; some punk was beating on a girl, and when a man stepped in to get between he and she, the (now deceased) woman beater came after the gentleman with a knife.

Y'all know you just don't bring a knife to a gunfight. The gentleman had his CCW permit, took action, and no charges were ever filed.

Awesome story, I love it! True justice right there, not like our slap-on-the-wrist judicial system.

Even better than that is the fact that if the one perp actually does live and recover. They WILL charge him with the MURDER of his accomplice!!!!

GOD I LOVE FL!!!!!

Something happened like that in Ft. Myers a couple of months ago.. 3 guys held up a man mowing his lawn, tried to force him inside(wife and maybe kids were home) to rob them. He grabbed the gun, shot 2 of them... the 3rd is in jail pending 2 murder charges:biggrin:

Sad times when I have to carry my gun just to mow the F'n yard:mad: (I have ever since that story aired)

This is only a couple of miles from me.

Now the grandparents of the kid that died want to know how a man can shoot 2 people and not go to jail.

The guy working at the subway is an immigrant getting paid min. wage :dunno: and shows up 2 days later for work. Good for him, someone that's working to get ahead. Yet these 2 "kids" that don't cause any trouble "got tired of working low paying jobs" and were supposedly working on getting their GEDs.

Oh man....dont cause any trouble? Tired of working low paying jobs!?! So those grandparents condone their actions? The fact that those sentances were uttered in relation to those filths of society pisses me off. Those grandparents need to get slapped in the face.

I'm proud of him! Oooohraaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My wife is a Marine and I pity the fool that thinks she won't pull the trigger.

Reminds me of about 5-6 years ago stopped with my dad (now 83) at a supermarket in a not so good part town. Dad was part of the second wave in on Normandy Beach in WWII and lost almost his complete company in the Battle of the Bulge where he came out wounded and got the purple heart. Anyway, He wants to wait outside while I go in. Well, I come out to see this hulk of a guy half dad's age but almost twice his size walking away from him and ask "what did he want"? Dad says "he wanted my wallet but I convinced him that was a bad idea"! I asked him how he did that and he says when the guy reached for him he grabbed the guys hand and held it in such a way as to dislocate the metacarples in it as he squeezed and that he told the guy "I ain't afraid of no man". Now dad has been and still is a professional bowler (bowled a 300 game in sanctioned play a couple of years ago and gets invited to the senior PBA tournements all the time) who stands 6'1" and weighs 195 with very large hands and his right hand and forearm is very strong. So he grabbed the goof and dislocated his hand.
Dad is one of the most generous, sweetest guys you will ever meet (if that goof would have asked politely for twenty bucks dad would have given it too him) but he is also one tough old bird. The guy still changes his own water pumps and brakes and washes and waxes his own cars and cuts the lawn and paints the house and chases his grandkids in water fights and...

I hope I'm still going like him when I get that old.

Mikey

Thats a good story Mike, like what was posted earlier, punks today look at an old man and see just that...an old man not thinking that they took out many krauts or pacific theater or what it was like to grow up on a farm with chores at 4:30 and do real work

My Grandpa Pete was proud of his war time kills and took pics of the ones he could with him and his buddies standing over..no lie some were down right grisley..But the most gentle man you ever meet, hand fed his squirrils and although later in life he felt bad for the loss of young men he always said that was the risk those young men took when putting on the enemys uniform.

Named his first daughter Mariness...and i never wondered why:)

And on his death bed when i walked in and told him i was joining the army..he said now why would you go and join a pussee outfit like that..lol sheesh
