I want to rebuilt my stock 87 gn turbo soon and would like to replace the stock downpipe also..But I would want the stock turbo shield to fit without cutting. What the best stock replacement downpipe that has alittle better flow and fits in stock location with the stock turbo shield? I know kirban has one, that would most likely be my first choice. what about rjc?would the turbo shield still fit correct?

The only ones out there will use a cast iron elbow. You can get these elbows larger than stock then get a larger downpipe for it.

So kirban's then..it's a 3"pipe and it comes in two piece to bolt on for easy installing. I think it's suppose to flow better then the old stock one, and looks orginial more or less too.

The two piece stock replacement downpipes leak. Bad. At least in my experience they have. And forget about getting to the allen head bolts to tighten them up or remove them. Collosal PITA. And it takes for ever to do the work. If you want to go that route, go ahead. Just a fair warning. You can port the stock cast iron elbow for more flow. It is easy to do with a carbide bit.

Without the right clamps or proper installation any exhaust pipe can leak.

Just a suggestion, after you have the two piece mounted and lined up to the cat or test pipe, bolt it all up tight then tack weld the two piece pipes together. Then un bolt the elbow and Down pipe all in one piece. Remove the ugly clam and finish weld the pipe. Clean up the welds then sand blast it all for 2000 degree black or silver paint. You could then bake it to cure the paint and repeat if needed. It looks sharp when done right.

Ive done this on a few cars, "not TR's". For about 20 bucks at the most, makes a big difference.

Thanks Joe
