Point taken. Why do they run her license? Simple, to ensure that her PRIVILAGE to operate a vehicle has not been suspended for failure to pay an infraction, insure her car, or whatever else may have caused her privilage to operate a vehicle to be revoked or suspended. She may have a DUI warrant as well.

You have to produce a license if a check point is being conducted. It takes about 10 seconds to run someones license on the computer. 10 seconds is not unreasonable amount of time to wait by anyones standards. Of course there is the time you are waiting in traffic to be checked but your waiting in traffic while construction takes place on the highway to make the road safer for you to operate on as well. Road improvements are conducted to make the roads safer to.

Those check points that may cause her to run a little late for work but are there to ensure that she actually does make it to work and back home to your family by removing drunks and criminals off the street who put her life in jeopardy.

There is a fine line between making the streets safe and infringing upon ones rights causing them to wait an unreasonable amount of time. The actual time taken to talk to you, make an observation and run ur license is maybe (5) minutes at most if your not under the influence.

When people die as a result of drunk drivers the public is always saying "There should be more random check points to get them off the road". Well, that is essentially what is going on with check points. They are not designed to inconvenience you. They are designed to protect you.

Man Brett I highly respect you LEOs for the job you have but I dont like the CP's , Yes I can avoid them if I know when and where, not because IM guilty of anything but for the inconvenience.

I went through one once, the Officer asked me if I been drinking (no)..no biggie but when he asked me the ( any bombs, grenades, rocket launchers) I told him I was well aware that that question is designed to generate either a laugh or raised eyes, dumbfounded look and a firm serious no... which means the perp could very well have something to hide, He then told me flat out "just answer the question" good thing I didnt have my 40 cal with me that night...Yes on CCW but I coulda seen getting flagged over for another 15 mins of eyeballin.

I am not sure if that is the norm but from my ONE experience I didnt appreciate it.

When I got to the officer he greeted me and said it was a sobriety and safety check point...ok smell my breath (and no IM not saying stick yer nose up in my pie)...booze stinks from 4 ft or better... anyway no booze on breath, car is new...move along, If you want to run my plate do so as IM pulling away then if I'M an Axe murderer or didnt pay for an MV then call up ahead and nab me.

It only took me about 5 mins to get through the line but it took me about 2 hrs to calm down from being pissed off.

Maybe someday bring the Buick through one a couple of towns over and dont flash when you open your wallet and just take note... it may go smooth or you may feel a little pinched... just a flip of the quarter i guess.
