Just a vent fellas.... I have removed engines from these things many times but I must say this has been an EPIC failure!!! I am wrapping up my personal 87 with a new engine. Engine is a week away so I thought I'd get it ready for the new motor and pull the old out. While I am at it why not freshen up the engine bay? Sure. I get all the bolts out of the bellhousing and torque converter... Remove the wiring harness and all the other odds and ends. Then I take the bumper and header panel off because my new hoist doesn't have the reach of my old one and start cranking....WRONG! I notice trans fluid POURING out on the garage floor.....Hmmmm? I drop down to check it out and I notice that the motor is dragging the trans and snapped the trans mount? Again, hmmm? I stop everything and look for the culprit.....After looking at the passenger side I see that I have been smart enough to leave a bellhousing bolt in! FML!!!!:mad::mad: Anyone else ever do this, or I the only idiot???!!!

My hoist has a short reach ram arm also and what i found that works for me is to take the passenger side wheel off and put the hoist in from the side there and it is just long enough to center over the engine.

I don't trust myself to do anything in a rush,so i double check all the bolts, wires, cables, hoses just to make sure i didn't forget anything,so that i don't have one of those "oh $hit" moments with the engine dangling on the end of the hoist. It takes a little more time but it's worth it and makes things go smoother for a one shot deal.

Good tip on the side :) I have no clue how I did this? I have done this pull so many times too! Oh well, live and learn.... Should have double checked as well!

The glass is half full. Now you have an excuse to buy a poly trans mount which is what your subconsciencely wanted to do anyway.

To make the engine hoist reach from the front, move the arm out a few more inches and drill a new hole. Also I use a 3' web sling under the intake to prevent scratching the motor.

I snapped the shifter cable off an '87 I was swapping frames on. $36 from the dealer was a small price to pay.

Nope, your the only idiot Justin, everything I touch just turns to gold . Chit happens, the only thing you can do is learn from the mistakes and keep going forward. If you never screwed anything up, your not doing anything .

Buy a DECENT hoist, couple hundred dollar hoist, 1X,XXX dollar car. And its less work, because your not taking off and putting back on bumpers and crap:confused:

I'd say if a $10 trans mount is the worse thing you've broke so far, you're doing pretty damn good.
