Got a new Eagle crank , want to balance rotating ass. opinions on internal balance with neutral flex and harmonic bal, or factory external with weighted flex and harmonic, I have available either way . opinions from the sorcerers please? RON in Daytona

Ron ,
The best way would be to internally balance the Eagle crank. Thats what the piece was built for. :)

Ron,

Ditto for what Louie said. FWIW, internal balance is the preferred balance method for racing engines. Do it right and get an SFI flexplate and balancer also.

Yeah, what they said. It would be cheaper to balance it externally, because you can use a stock balancer hub, and a stock flexplate. But since the Eagle crank was not "prebalanced" like a stock crank, you would have to have it balanced anyway, and using external balance might require more work. Also, the stock balancer hub is NOT a harmonic damper- the Buick engine comes without a damper. So, if you buy the aftermarket hub, you will gain a damper, too. The internal balance job will be easier on the crank, because the balance weights will be closer to the source of the imbalance, rather than hung out at the ends of the crank. May be smoother, too, but the Buick V6 is not ever going to be smooth like a V8, so that may not be noticeable.

Anyone have any part numbers for the flexplate and balancer and the best place to get them?
