Early 80's Buick Skylark 1.8L Turbo T-Type???

I was at the junkyard yesterday and came across what appeared to be an early 80's Buick Skylark (little boxy car) 1.8L Turbo T-Type. It had the EXACT same Steering wheel as the GN and it said T-Type in the center. (Too bad it was bent a bit from an accident). The hood had a raised section (just like the GN) on the front drivers side and it had 1.8L Turbo emblems on it. Also Had T-Type badges on the car! Anyone ever heard of this? Looked pretty cool! NOW THATS A SPORT COMPACT!

I remember Pontiac having the sunbird turbo coupe & convertible.

I don't recall a Buick one but I am sure if Pontiac had one then another GM divison would share one.

Are you sure it wasn't a Skyhawk Limited instead of skylark??

maybe skyhawk but I did see the Buick emblems in the center of the taillights. Forgot all about the skyhawk

If it was early I bet it was HOT AIR

I think they are actually an 88 & 89 model.
I remember seeing a Pontiac sunbird turbo 1.8 being tested in a pontiac magazine I had or have someplace.
I think they tweaked it down to 15's from high 16's in the 1/4

It was the same 1.8/2.0 Brazilian made 4 cylinder that Pontiac used in the Sunbirds and some Grand Am's. They had a 2 piece cylinder head. I believe the 86 turbos were 1.8's and the 87-91's were 2.0's. Pretty darn fast little cars for what they were. Later ones used the same ecm as used on the Syclones and Typhoons.
I seem to remember Patrick from PTE saying he had a turbo Sunbird that ran 13's.
Problems with those engines are fragile heads, head gaskets and connecting rods.

See the sunbird pics on my homepage to see what happens when a few rods from those Brazilian motors decide to exit out the bottom of the pan.

All were hot-airs, not a bad little car, ECM (from the Sy/Ty) limits boost to 12lbs or cuts off the FUEL!!!!!

It would take BIG cash to really make them go "fast" - like into the 14s. Fun stop light racer though. Rolling into the throttle from a stop, when the boost hits, you would get the "right tire fire" going.

The 87 and up 2.0 also had a water and oil cooled turbo.

I seen them in the Buick dealer brochure for 1984 model year.I have never seen one on the road,they must be kind of rare.

I remember seeing one or two of them. I thought they were pretty cool... a mini GN.
