I bought my car with a set of these heads. How good are they? I am assuming they were purchased & installed in the early-mid 90's.

They have never been off my car so I have never had a chance to look at the porting or valves. Any of u old school guys give me some input.

Ed,
I had a set of these on my old GN. With mild parts, a 206/206 roller and 22 psi it would run 11.2-11.4 with soft 1.6x 60fts.
Are they any good? That is anyones guess... But mine could not have been bad to run those times at a moderate boost level. (was with a PT61-52E)

Brian

Thanks Brian, and no I 'm not gonna take them off and try another set if thats what your thinking. We dont need another "plenum" fight on our hands...we just made up. :D ;)

They had 3 stages of those heads. Depends on what they are. I have a set of stage 3's on my car and made 600 hp at the wheels with out going balls out boost crazy. I'd say their pretty good.

I think those are all CNCed right?
I have not heard anything bad about these.

Anyway to look at the heads while on the car and get some info?

I am pretty excited since I have the turbo and what looks to be decent heads. Now all I need is that pesky roller cam...

I don't think there is any way to tell other than yanking them off. I compaired mine with a set of champions and you can't tell a difference. The ports are huge on mine ( I havn't laid eyes on a set of Easterns stage 1 or 2's though to see the diff.) and the valves are big. looks like they "almost" touch. I only know what mine are because the guy that owned the car previously was a close friend, otherwise they look stock. No cnc stamped "giveaway" ;)

It's only a matter of time with the amount of boost this guy runs.

I always suspected their heads were Champions they sold under the Eastern Performance name....they dont have an in house cnc machine either

Could have been a Champion head back in the day. Now there's Champion CNC'd on the outside of the head. I just wish he'd blow a gasket so we can find out for sure!

Turbo6...I'm not gonna blow a headgasket. I read Grumpys secret..."No Knock". Well thats my secret too.:D

Seriously since I put that 6776 DBB my car feels insane at 25 psi...even with the stock cam. I guess that turbo is loving those heads.

Thanks for all the input.

If you look on the front of the head(s) you should see a number stamped in the face. It would read ESP###. This is the serial #. This would tell you 1) if it is CNC'd and 2) what CNC program was used, ESP Strip or ESP Race. Eastern was the first company to CNC Buick V-6 heads, about 10 or more years ago and Champion started a few years after. The ESP Race program is the most popular. They are good for low 10s, at least.

Hope this helps you.

great info. thanks. now maybe he can tell what he's got !

Where do I reference the serial number. DO u have that info or is there somehwere on the internet I can look?

The number is stamped on the front of one head and the rear of the other. It depends how they were installed. It is information we have here, filed away.

Hope this helps you.
