The star adjuster for the rear brakes. Is that thing normal right hand threads?

Loosen would be put the tool in the top of the slot on top of the star and pull downward to screw the adjusters tighter together sliding the shoes inwards correct? Drivers rear if that matters. :)

Mine aren't moving so good that's why I need the help here.

Didn't we just talk about this for my car :D . I think they are normal right hand threads. I never did figure out what you were saying about the brake tool and access panel to the adjuster. I just adjusted the star and then put the drum on. I still think they will self adjust when in reverse and braking, but I may be wrong.

Yes they will self adjust unless they are stuck on all the time. :D

There is a rubber plug you can put the tool into to adjust them.

Take a light and go look at the bottom of the backing plate just inside the lower shock mount. Pop the plug out and the adjuster goes in there.

If you have ever grooved a shoe into the drum it won't come off unless you can manually back them out with the brake tool.

Don't ask me how I know this.... :(

Anyway if they are a right hand thread which I think they are too then they will loosen with a downward motion on the star from behind the brakes which brings the shoes together more.

:)

Guess it wasn't so easy. ;)

salvagev6: one side is right hand threads and the other is
left hand threads. this so when the brakes self adjust both
sides get tighter instead of one side loosen. the passenger
side should have the left hand threads. don't mix them up
or your brakes will automatically deadjust.

Okay it's the drivers side adjuster in the back shoe. Makes sense to be right hand threads, hope I can get some clicks out of them. :)

Ya'll could save yourself a lot of aggrivation and guess work, just pull the drum off and adjust them by hand. Take them out to the point you can just get the drum on without any drag, then you'll know they're right.
Then let the self adjusters do their job.

Dave come on over and help me get the drum off. It's stuck.

The adjuster is on it's last legs and I only want to turn it with the adjusting tool once to loosen them in order to get them off.

Don't want to tighten them further.

Thus the whole point of the thread. ;)

I know how to put them back on. :)

I say take a rubber mallet to the back of the drum to get them off. That's what I did :) . Doesn't it help to depress the brake pedal 10 times with the car off to relieve brake pressure?

Of course it's down to up to loosen the drivers side rear brake.

Dyslexia sucks. ;)
