Easy EGR ?

I just picked up a 87 t and the car idles real ruff. and rich, the turbo link gives me a code for the egr-Well i compressed the egr and instead of dieing the car started running higher.Well theres vacuum at the line on idle, for the egr sol. and Im thinking that this is the problem -when i take the line off it runs better

I was wondering if this is a common problem with the solnd.Or if theres might be a problem with the wireing anyone else have this problem?
