I sold an item a few weeks ago. In the ad it states payment due within 7 days of auction end. I only get one reply from the winner saying he will send payment. 3 weeks later after numerous e-mails, payment reminders and posting negative feedback he emails out of the blue and says he has sent payment that morning.
Now the problem is I have already re-listed it. If, and this is a BIG IF, his payment shows up should I return his payment and sell to the next winning bidder or do I sell to him?
I mean it kinda feels wrong to cancel all these other bidders who honestly think they may be able to purchase this. As far as I was concerned my dealing with him was done when I posted neg. and requested seller's credit.
What are your guys opinions? Let it fly.

send his check back and he looses and if he bids again, dont accept his big.

he read the terms and ducked you and didnt pay for 3 weeks.

his loss

Tell him that you will hang onto the check until the second auction is over. Tell him to bid the same amount. If he wins you cash his check. If he doesn't, then you will send it back to him. If he doesn't agree, then cash it, carry on with the other auction, then make him wait 3 weeks for the money back. Just kidding on the last part. Actually, you would probably be better off returning his check, and telling him that he lost out. Carry on with the other auction, and delete his bids. Even if you get a lower bid the second time around from someone else, at least you won't have to deal with this guy. Who know's what kind of problems he will cause if he doesn't like the part, or what not. Not to mention, if you already relisted, in order to sell it to him, you will have to end the auction early and sell it privately to him, correct?? If that is the case, do you have any of the minimal protection that eBay offers you? Tell him to trake a hike.

IF YOU ALREADY LEFT HIM NEGATIVE FEEDBACK THEN FORGET ABOUT HIM.

Don't give him a opportunity for payback on another auction. He's a Deadbeat.

Thanks guys. That is what I was thinking, return the check and sell to next bidder. So far nothing has shown up yet.
I did let someone bid on another auction once who had not sent payment in time, allegedly the check had been sent and it never showed. At least he helped bump it up a little.

I have a feedback of over 700 and many more than that successful auctions with about 10 neg's (only two were deserved, the others were people trying to scam) but that is over 6 years. Once in awhile I guess you get a few nuts.
Thanks again all.

Send his check back and make sure you get some kind of delivery conformation or signature to prove you sent it to him and be done with it.

I had a dead beat not pay for two months, then three weeks ago I get an e-mail that "he sent me a payment this morning".

I'm pretty sure the mail doesn't take 3 weeks, but I haven't received that payment, yet.

F-him.

No ethical question, here. Some E-bayers are just pathological and they should be treated as such.

my wife does a lot of selling through e-bay and it happens to her all the time. you gave the clod more than enough time to respond. While you can end the auction early in some cases, sounds like it isn't worth it in this case.

Thanks guys, pretty sure thats what I will do now. In case anyone is wondering I am selling the Cutlass Euro Header panel on ebay. User name jvero.

The only way I end an auction early is if they paypal me . I don't just take thier word . When it hits my paypal account I would then end the auction . By the way I have never ended an auction early yet . Had several people ask me to but they NEVER came threw

I have not ended early before to sell to someone either. I get asked often, I just tel them I would prefer to let the auction run it's course and it is against ebay policy. I have only ended because there was a listing error or because the iitem got damaged.
If I would have ended early it would have been if the payment arrived but it hasn't shown and I doubt it will.
Hopefully the next winner comes through.
Don't know how you guys that sell cars do it as there seems to be more deadbeats on the higher priced items.

What you doing here FOO? :D

Don't end the auction early, just get a buddy to help you shill bid up the price to the last minute, then let someone else win. That is the way to get the most money and to feel good about it.
