Editing posts?

I see know where on a post of mine, an EDIT option. Am I looking in the wrong area of my post, or what? If anyone can help me out, I'd appreciate it.

I think the option disappears after a while so you have a few minutes to edit out mistakes but can't go back 2 days later and completely change what you said.

At least that's how I thought it worked...

The edit option disappears after a certain amount of time has passed (10 minutes?)
