I'm considering an alky system soon. I would like to get the most out of it without killing my engine. I have read alot about EGT tuning and it seems to be the best way to go. My first question on EGT tunings is where does the probe go-before or after the turbo? Next is what is good "target" temp to look for. I haven't got a tester yet and am looking at several. What options or features are good to have for basic tuning. Do I need just the max temp or recording the whole run? I will be runing the stock computer. My goal is mid 11s eventually with a few more mods while still being a reliable street driven car. I also would like to have as little exposed wires and devices on my dash as possible so any mounting tips would be appreciated too.

most folks put the egt probe opposite the 02 sensor in the header uppipe.....you are concerned about peak egt readings, so the device should be able to record those....there is no need to observe the egt meter...I keep mine in the center console

there is no "ideal" temperature.....you need to become familiar with how your car reacts to various situations......02's and a method to monitor knock will help ( a typical range of peak egt temps for our cars would be 15-1600 or so)

I have a Scanmaster but as you know you can only see O2s or knock counts. What other gauge could you use to see both at the same time? From what I have seen the Knock Gauge is just a series of lights. Just get out of it if the lights go up? After a run I know to look back at both O2s and knock but for knock that can be too late.

trying to keep track of knock, 02's and egt in real time is not feasible.......Casper's knock gauge gives a visual warning that "could" keep you out of trouble....in reality, you are tuning "after the fact" and trying to make the proper correction for the next trip down the track

if you want the ability to correct on the fly, get a FAST system.....

The new device from PLX devices have all thoose features in real time. Dont remember the name now thought.

it really doesn't make any difference if the data is avilable "real time" unless some action can automatically be taken in "real time" to correct a situation....the driver doesn't have a chance to react and still drive the car....that's the advantage of a wideband 02 controlled DFI system
