Is it worth buying an electronic boost controller? If so which ones do you recommend? Thanks

boost controller

greddy profec b spec 2 or the innovative unit.

greddy spec II user here. i love it and dont know why i did not buy it sooner. ive used the ramchargers BstC and the RJC racing controller. This electronic boost controller is awesome and not to bad on price. $250-300 brand new on ebay. took about 30 minutes to install. another 30 to get it dialed in.
has a hi/lo setting with other parameters to adjust for each setting.

Oh it's that easy to install? You don't have to run any wires through the firewall or anything?

Another Greddy user here...I love mine as well. I know some of the old school die hard Buick guys will say electronic boost controllers are a waste of $$$ and rice, but you overboost once and you'll be glad you had one. Plus I got tired of messing with my wastegate rod and bleeder valves. :)

dvernst- you still need to route some wires and a vacuum line through the firewall but install is still easy.

I'm not happy with my innovative controler. Tried hooking it up a few different ways. One way, it over boosts, then under boosts, back and fourth.

In wastegate mode (dual solonoid), it will only make 10PSI slowly.

I'm using a new turbonetics wastegate.

Any ideas??

Turbo2nr: Are you using CO2? Did you replumb the Map sensor for wastegate mode?

I tried using a boost source from the turbo cover, then the manifold, no help.

I have the MAP sensor going top the top of the wastegate.

I have grounded the yellow wire to activate "wastegate mode".

I tried out the dual solonoid, wastegate mode today and it only produced 10PSI no matter what I did.

Back the regular way, it would over shoot, then under, then over, but i did have somewhat control.

My vacuum line has a strong signal (emptys the air in my mouth in .01 sec.)

(Cal, we have met a few times. Thanks for trying to help)

Without dealing with you in "real time" it's going to be dificult to diagnose your problem. I am sure CO2 would help your situation (especially in wastegate mode). If you like, I may have a spare controller you could borrow (doubt this is the problem).
Do you have an XFI? If so, I can send you a flash update that will allow you to very accuratly controll your boost in wastegate mode.

Thanks. No XFI.
I'll keep experimenting with stuff. So many options to use this controler. Three soloniods, two solonoids, or one solonoid....Manifold mode, wastegate mode etc...Different options for boost source, turbo cover or manifold or CO2. It's a very flexable system. I just need to find the right combo for me.

With the Innovative the launch spike is kinda normal. It happens on my car, and seen it in others. But on my car it has proven detrimental only on a real crappy track. It is still one of the best boost controllers out there.

The CO2 really helps a bunch.
