I was just wondering- if my car- 1984 GN has the stock ESC module, should it be replaced due to age...? and since I have converted to the 87 ECM- could I use any of the 84 to 87 ESC modules or am I limited to the Hot Air ESC module only??
If you have part numbers that would be nice to know as well...
Need your input... TIA

Duralast part #ESC114 for the 87 GN

Duralast part # ESC106 for Hotair.

O'Reilly's

87 Grand national BWD - Electronic Spark Control Module
Part Number: ESC113

85 Regal T-Type/GN BWD - Electronic Spark Control Module
Part Number: ESC107

They are different in part number but they look the same. I would assume it functions the same.

I replaced mine during my knock hunt last fall with the 85 Duralast ESC with my 87 ECM and it worked just fine. The ESC was not the source of my knock problem. Brad

I went and checked the ESC in my car and it appears to be a BLO (86 module)
so it looks like it may have been changed before...

Mark (O So Lo) you have me curious now. Does anyone know the difference between the 84-85 ESC and the 86 which is a BLO and the 87 which is a HKP ?? I know what they do and how they function but what's the difference?

Externally, there is not much difference, if any.
The KR flittering between the two is different with the 86/87 being more lenient towards KR.

ESC "can" be a source of KR, but it is rarely to cause.

From what I was told the 87 is the slowest to react to knock. Don't know if it's true or not but I think it was bison that told me. It's been a while though.

86-87 ESC has "improved filtering for KR".
