.....to determine if there was price gouging going on because of the recent blackouts & pipeline problems...

Duh, ya think??

And gee, what if they DO find evidence of price gouging? (or should that be "when" they find...) Will anyone "in oil" even get their hands slapped? A stern talking-to even?? Will I get any rebate on the 165 gallons of price-gouged gas I burned over the labor day weekend?

Fat f*****g chance on both counts. Greedy pricks just piss me off...

Really. What's to investigate? Happens every Summer that gas prices go up and up. They always come up with some kind of reason to blame it on, but that's just trying to justify it. Still a lot cheaper than overseas, but that doesn't make it right to gouge us every Summer.

Wow, you guys have cheap prices. Here in Cali we are getting 91 octane and are paying almost $2.50 a gallon. Just got back from Indy and they we crying over spending $1.75 for 93 octane. Guess it is all relative. The reason they blamed here was because of a pipeline problem in Arizona that was never a problem I hear from people actually on the pipeline working to keep it flowing. When you have a glut of fuel as we have, just create an emergency and you can sell your product for more money and maintain total gross profit by selling less fuel. It's free enterprise. I haven't seen anyone refusing to buy for awhile, so the petro industry will continue its practices of doing this. Mark :D

Funny how we can go to the moon, clone sheep but cant figure how to run an GN off corn. :D

These investigations are just a show to make the public think government cares. Look who's in charge! Do you really think THEY care if gas costs more?!

I've been thinking the oil companies are right when they say supply disruptions are to blame for the price increases. Think about it. All these people commuting in gas-guzzling SUVs every day, and when was the last time you heard about a new oil refinery being built?

Really, Americans are lucky to have gas as cheap as we do. I just spent a week in Vancouver and gas there was going for 90 cents a liter. That works out to around $3.40 a gallon -- only an hour from the U.S. border! You can bet I saw a LOT less piggy SUVs on the roads up there!

Yeah, it's the fault of SUV's:rolleyes:

At least race gas has not gone up

Ever notice how just the threat of a problem causes to price to go up right-a-way, but when the "problem" is solved the price takes weeks to settle back down

If gasoline goes up 20¢ a gallon, and you drive 300 miles a week, at 15 mpg, you spend an whopping $4 extra a week.

Less than a pack of smokes.

Hey Matt,
Why do you have a problem with SUV's? I pay for my own freaking gas in my SUV you don't!....so get over it. You sound like Arrianna Huffington or whatever that stupid broads name is that blames everything on SUV's. Sorry to flame you but I am sick and tired of Suv's being blamed for everything! BTW...I love my big PIGGY SUBURBAN. Sorry to get off topic.....anyway the Energy Commision is a day late and a dollar short...prices are starting to fall here:rolleyes:

And that's EXACTLY how they WANT you to think! Don't sound like much...

But what about someone like ME, who pulls a boat (that burns thru about 80 gallons of gas a weekend) with a motorhome 88 miles to the lake & back every weekend (which comes to over 35 gallons round trip @ 5mpg)...

Not even counting all the OTHER gas I use, that comes to 115 gallons a week...

times THAT by 20 cents, and I'm paying an extra $23.00 per week! That's pretty much $100 a month EXTRA for my gas!! Hell, my boat payment is only $175 for christs sake!

Sorry, but that goes way beyond "a pack of smokes" money....

One would think that with the blackout and business shut down, fuel consumption would have been down, thus a surplus of fuel. I don't care what anybody says, the stations around here were down, with thier fuel tanks still full, yet somehow we got by. You weren't going to another state for fuel when you couldn't even get there, much less what the hell are you going to do when all the businesses were closed.

Then as if it never happened, the prices did the usual labor day hike.

That $4 adds up fast!

Guys who depend on gas for doing landscaping buisness will just pass that along to the customer.

That so called lousy $4 can really add up.
Poor folks who camp or tow stuff pay extra all around.

Unleaded GT100 was $4.49 now it's 4.89. Makes homebrew even better.

Easy there. I never suggested anybody's SUV should be taken away. I know some people need their SUVs. But most don't. My problem is that I live in one of the smoggiest places in America, and SUVs pump out 2-3 times more smog than cars. That's a fact. I'm tired of breathing this crud and not being able to see the mountains just 15 miles away because of the brown air. SUVs could be just as clean as cars if automakers were willing to give up a tiny sliver of the huge profits they make off these things. Instead they spew nonsense that pollution controls will make SUVs unsafe.

SUV's spew more pollution???

Since when do SUV's not have to meet the same emmissions requirements as every other car? Does my LS1 powered Avalanche put out more pollution that the LS1 powered 'Vette or Camaro?

Hell, the Ford F150's we drive at work (big oil refinery) qualify as LEV's (low emmission vehicles).

BTW, a friend from work's wife said, " Have you seen the price of gas!?!" To which he replied, "Yeah, aint it great!"

I know gas prices suck but in the grand scheme of things, gasoline is EXTREMELY cheap. If it'd kept pace with inflation, it'd be somewhere in the neighborhood of $30 a gallon if memory serves.

LOL-
BUY A DIESEL, and not have to worry about gas mileage!:D ;)

my 99 powerstroke gets 10 mpg at 15,000 lbs all day stock
my 02 cummins turbo diesel gets 16 mpg at 17,500 lbs all day not so stock!

so it sounds like BFH needs to get a diesel and not complain about GAAASSSSS prices:p

Diesel here is 1.39 a gallon right now in missouri at the local flyin J
soo lets see here, .60 cents less a gallon, gets twice the fuel mileage.. i dont see the price of gas being the problem, its the fuel consumption that your pissed about:D

must be nice going to the lake EVERY weekend, hows the water?
BW

sheesh...
the lowest for premium 92 here on Oahu, HI is $2.11. Highest I've seen is $2.45
On our neibor Islands like Molokai where there's only one gas station. It's $2.79 for 87 octane. $3.XX for premium.
I also think its part due to our recent bus strike thats ongoing. ever since the city bus workers have gone on strike, gas stations take the oppurtunity to jack up prices. SUCKS!!!!

Yep, I hate the price of gas like everyone else but I had to shake my head last weekend at the US Nationals. Folks were plunking down $3.00 for a 12 oz. bottle of water.

;) (<---please notice)

...with all due respect:
BULL$#!T!!

;) (<---please notice again!)

I'm not the LEAST bit pissed about my fuel consumption! I know full well how much gas my toys burn, and KNEW full well before I ever bought any of 'em!

By the way, let's do some actual "gas-price math"! Such as: take away the 49 cents per gallon tax from the $1.48 price our gas WAS 6 weeks ago, and the actual price was $.99...Gas here is now $1.79, up 31 cents per gallon...which is an ACTUAL price increase of 32.3%!!

What other type of business can get away with arbitrarily raising it's prices by 1/3 just because they feel like it!? Oil can do it simply because they know they have us by the balls!

OH--and I'll even offer a little "psychic" prediction...as our gasoline prices now start going down, your diesel prices will start going UP! :D
