Engine bay cleaning tips??????

I would like to clean out my engine bay and clean the engine. I plan on using Simple green. Is there places on the engine that I should avoid getting wet? Anything that needs to be blocked off or covered up better? Should I remove the PCV valve and plug that hole better? Any techniques for cleaning that work better? thanks. i am hoping to ad some horsepower by cleaning the engine. LOL

Simple Green will do a good job. I don't cover anything up when I clean mine but I do not spray directly at any of the sensors or IAC. Make sure you've got a generous amount of dielectric grease on your plug wire boots where they connect to the coil pack too.
