I know this has been beaten to death but after a search I still have a few questions. I took motor out and reinstalled without disconnecting the starter or altenator.I have a R.A. double pumper and tried to put pressure to the hobbs switch to see if the 2nd pump would turn on and nothing. No fuel pressure with key on, so it has to be grounds right, since thats all I removed? I tried to put oil down the turbo oil supply tube and that will not prime the pump. I read about packing the bypass spring and plunger with vaseline and want to know if that is right above the oil filter as I do not have a oil cooler line hooked up? If I try that method is a gasket required? Thanks

Uhh..can you restate the question? This is pretty confusing. Would like to help but don't have a clue what you;re trying to say here...

so you have no oil pressure or fuel pressure, cause you are talking about both systems.......

are you referring to not having fuel pressure, so you are attributing this to the oil pressure switch not sending a backup signal for the fuel pump when it hits 4psi? because the switch only works in case the fuel pump relay is bad, so maybe look there. as far as priming the oil pump on a fresh motor, you pack grease into the oil pump gears themselves. some people remove the cam sensor and dump oil down there also.

Sorry for the confusion. I have no fuel pressure and did not remove any of the wires from the alternator or starter. I was asking if the only thing that could affect the fuel pressure under those criteria was the grounds? I also do not have oil pressure and although I never took the pump apart the motor was upside down on an engine stand. I read that you can pack the pump with vaseline and was wondering if that can be done with engine installed? If so where does one locate some directions to do this? I did a search and couldnt find any step by step instructions. I tried to prime the motor with an external air tank into the turbo oil feed line. I did get oil pressure but the pump did not fill with oil. If I use the starter to turn it over, no pressure

well to properly prime it you are supposed to pack the gears during assembly prior to putting the pump cover on. you can do it with it on the car by removing the (6) 3/8ths bolts in the cover and packing the gears, although i must say it is hard to get right sometimes because the bolts are hard to get at, and the cover may leak. In your case i'd say your best bet would be to remove the cam sensor, dump oil down there so it goes down into the gears, and then put an oil pump priming tool (homeade or from a smallblock) on the oil pump gear shaft, and spin clockwise with a drill for awhile until the drill bogs right down, then do it a little more. Also pre-fill the oil filter as much as you can. that should build some pressure and prime the pump.

I think priming the oil pump requires a little patience. I primed the pump for the first time today on my Grooms block with RJC deep pan. I put 6 qts of oil in the pan, put some in the filter, broke a flat head screw driver and used my Dewalt 18 Volt drill. After less than a minute, oil was shooting out of the cooling line. Within about 5 minutes, oil was coming out of the pushrods at the rockers and the turbo feed line. I did clean the pickup thoroughly, but never packed the gears with grease. I only put a little oil on them. The drill never bogged down and I was worried until I saw the oil coming out by the rockers.
