Engine light with code 32

Okay, I need some guidance here. Infamous Service Engine light has been coming on, mostly when at close to idle speed. I don't have a scan tool unfortunately, but it is on my short list right after rent and food in the next month . Anyway, read about doing a non-scan diagnostic using the terminal and a paperclip to ground it. Did that and the only code it gave me was a "32", so read and got some advice that it must be a bad EGR Valve. So, just today I replaced that myself (a good time had by none, as about the only thing you can do easily on these cars without moving other stuff is put gas and oil in it......sorry just a little frustrated). I unplugged the orange wire for the ECM behind the battery for a minute to clear the error code and started the car and sure enough after a few seconds the damn light is back on and is still giving me a code "32", but no other error codes!!!!!!! Any ideas anyone????? I've had the car for a few years but have really just started this past year to start to do things to it myself and learn about it, so my knowledge is still quite limited. Thanks.

Thanks Gregg, but that was exactly where I read about the problem in the first place, and replacing the EGR Valve seemed to be the solution suggested there, with the only other possibility being a bad ECM, and I was hoping someone might have some insight into other possibilities before I go replacing that for no reason and still have the Service Engine Soon light on. I don't really see where that link is giving me any more info.??

The conditions for setting this code are:

no vacuum to EGR (switch open), and
Code 33 or 34 (MAF error) is not present, and
engine running and LV8 is less than 100, and
coolant temperature is > 118 deg F (48 deg C), and
the EGR solenoid duty cycle is < 65%, and
the above conditions are met for more than 25 seconds

I am having the same problem with code32 popping up. The only problem is that according to what I just copied, it isn't possible since it usually occurs when the car is first started and being pulled out of the garage (coolant less than 118 deg) and usually the engine is barely running for 25 seconds when SES light comes on. I am guessing there are more possible causes for the code than listed here.

Please help us both.

Typical causes for this code include:

1) Faulty EGR valve-to-ECM connection
2) Plugged EGR passages and/or sticking EGR valve
3) Defective EGR valve
4) Defective ECM

When you had the EGR valve removed, did you look into the passage to see if it was clogged? Try running a wire through it to see if it will pass through.
