Are they supposed to have a gasket --washer--or someting up in the cap to catch when fully seated. My trans dipstick does but eng. oil stick does not. Seems awfully LOOSE to me. Thanks.

Lee, I almost positive they are supposed to have a rubber grommet up in them that grips the tube slightly.

No gasket or seal up there. The round metal part of the cap underneath the T-handle is supposed to be tight against the tube. It's not supposed to have an air tight seal there anyway.I've repaired them using the dipstick off of a 85-88 vintage NA3800 Park Ave. Just push out the roll pin holding the T handle to the dipstick and swap the handle, cap and retainer over to your old dipstick.

I never saw anything on any of mine. I just use a fuel line o-ring and push down as i tighten the retaining bolt.

I'm talking about the stick not the tube.
I seem to be pushing a small amount of oil out around the top of tube and the stick cap. New rings, I might add--maybe not seated yet. Thank to all who replied.

The dipstick Lee just fits over the tube with no o ring or anything of the nature, like a loose fit in the tube, on the tube I do use a little red silicone on the rolled part just below it when I install the tube, whether it uses it or not??, I put a little just below the rolled area anyway.

Eric, how are you liking NC??

Just Great. Right now it feels like FL in the first week of Feb. By January it will feel like I'm back in Nebraska. I'll have to dust off the winter coat before I know it. To bad the tranny in the GN is on it's last leg. Can't beat the free HP in the cold air.:)

Lee,
Quit checking your oil so DAMN much !! That way you won't be wearing the stick out !!! I have a NOS oil dip stick ???

Lee, weld it right to the tube. Killed two birds with one stone. Don't have to worry about the damn oil cause you can't measure it anymore and now it's not loose. HEE- HEE Sorry my freind I just had to. MERRY XMAS !!
