It's HOT here in The Big Easy in July. The engine temp on my new scanmaster showed 240 on my stock GN. Concerned, I bought some engine coolant reducer at Advance--pink stuff--water wetter I think was the name and after installing it the temp went down to a high of 215. I'm feeling better now but what should my car be running on a 90 degree day ? Tommy

My GN on a 90* day runs about 175-180 with a 160* thermostat and a big front mount intercooler blocking air flow. What kind of thermostat do you have in your car? Also what kind of shape are your fans in becasue at one point my were working but the bearings in the fan were shot and the thing was barely spinning and it gave me some high engine temps.

Its fairly easy to get these car to run @ 180 consistently, but ultimately it is not necessary on a stock GN. Its when you start modding the car when it is absolutely necessary to run at 190 or lower. The stock thermostat is 195, so 215 isnt the worst thing in the world on a 90 degree day. as a basis for comparison, my 88 iroc runs at 220 all of the time, and thats right int he middle of the stock guage, so it cannot be bad. so i gues the answer to your wuestions is 215 is not the best, but its ok and your not hurting anything in a stock GN.

ramchargers dual fans, a new rad(or flushed old one) and a 160 stat should bring you down to 180 or so.. :)

Thanks for the replys--where should I buy new fans and how much do they cost? How do I know if my fans are not working? Tommy

Just wanted to second the RC dual fans. You can order them direct through the ramchargers website. There is a link on this board to it. I believe youll need Part# 674001 for the fans, and part# 674002 for the direct plug in to the factory harness. Itll be like a hundred bucks total. Well worth it. I had a factory fan that was not spinning well, saw temps around 210. Now with RC fans never goes above 173....even with A/C on.

I just ordered the Ramcharger Fan today myself
i think they are $79 dollars plus shipping.
Plus you can buy their plug n play harness, which i think you do need
its another $20

If there is nothing wrong with your engine, you should be able to run 165 to 180 with AC on in 90* temps. You can't with a 195 stat, or a junk radiator, or a non functioning fan, stock or not. What all don't you have? :D

I'll third that - I put RC fans in over the weekend. They are not direct fit, but can be installed without modifying the car (you modify the fans). Not a simple installation but not terribly complex either. Temps hang out in the high 170s with the chip set to turn the fan on at 170. In "race mode" (fan is basically constant run) temps are low 160s (with a 160 stat).

I've spent money on lots of stuff for this car that either didn't work or had marginal results. These fans are not one of them. They are a lot of bang for the buck - I'm very happy with them.

I wouldn't loose any sleep over a 215 temp when the car is sitting still or stop-and-go traffic. Mine creeps up there when I have the AC on also. I have an aluminum radiator with external oil and tranny coolers. Cruising on a 90+ day it stays at 170, but sitting still, it gets up over 200. Stock fan. Turn off the AC and it drops like a rock.

I also plan on the RC dual fans, but I don't really have a need for it.
