Can someone settle once and for all this question: Are ET streets the same tire as ET drags except for the tread grooves? Will they hook the same? I'm looking into purchasing one or the other and like a DOT tire if possible but not at the expense of traction. I have BFG drag radials and cant get them to hook. 60' are all 2.0 or slower. Thanks.

in my experience, ET drags hook much better......they try to tell you they are the same, but the sidewalls seem much softer on the drags and even the rubber compound seems different....all I can say is et Drags improve my 60' times by 1-2 tenths (and that is a lot!) I have used 'em both extensively and that is my experience.....

I don't see any fast cars running DOT tries unless they have to because of class!

i agree with azgn, et streets while very good wont hook as well as a full slick. were you may get a 1.70 with an et street, switch to a et drag and will most likely do a 1.60 on a low 12 sec car.

how hard you launch will make a difference also...prolly no difference to the high 1.6x 60's......into the 1.5 and 1.4 range, the Streets won't hold.......these are 15+ lb launches off a t-brake....if you aren't launching that hard, you may not notice much diff

I guess it depends on the car. I leave on the foot brake at 8-10 psi of boost. High 1.5's 60's.

I have a friend that has a 70 Nova that he races in the pure street class and runs the class spec. MT ET streets 26 x 10. His car runs 5.80's in the 1/8 th. His 60's are in the low 1.4's. This is with stock rear supension and bolt on Comp. bars. It does start to haze the tires about mid track. :D

These tires work good for some and not so good for outhers.

bet your friend would go faster on Drags, but limited by class requirement

this will go on forever....best thing to do is try 'em and see...run a set of each and see which goes fastest (the Drags win every time on my car....1.4x 60's)

I think a class requirement of a 26 x 10 tire is crazy when you have 3000# cars running 5's in the 1/8th. My .02

I do agree that a slick in most cases will peform better. The only reason I started using the ET Streets are the Thursday night requirement at Bristol. It is true street night and you must use DOT tires.

Just mounted new ET STREETS today

And no, that's not a hammer in my pocket:p

If you want to stay DOT, these tires are incredible.
It'll still haze em through first gear after a spooled holeshot,
but they bite REALLY hard, car squats down and gives you
that mushy feeling you get with ET DRAGS.
I run the ET DRAGS at the strip and I'd have to say they do
hook better than ET STREETS, but conditions are different
between streets and racetracks so it's hard to say.
What I can say for sure, is that I'm completely impressed
with the ability of these tires to launch the car and keep it
street legal at the same time

:D

The et's are not the same compound as the slicks and they do have a different sidewall. As far as traction is concerned a lot will depend on track conditions. If you are running on a well prepaired NHRA track you probably won't find very much differen
ce, but if you are on a track that is margional (which most of them are) and the surface goes away during the day because of the heat building up in the track from the sun the slicks will be much more consistant. Slicks are also lighter than the et streets which means it takes less horsepower to turn them. The only down side to slicks is they are not very streetable.
