Exhaust that fits

I used to have the ATR 2.5" stainless exhaust, but could never get it to fit right. After about 3 years of wrestling with it I decided to sell it (and the crappy old style ATR headers I bought).

Terry Houston sold me a nice 2.5" stainless dual setup that fit with stainless Dynomax Ultraflows. It uses all of the factory mounts, but I have supplemented them with an extra hanger before each muffler. The system is nice WITHOUT the droning of the ATR Pitbulls, and the Dynomax flow just as well as the ATR's (my opinion). Not sure if Terry still sells this system or if it was an experimental thing that didn't pan out. He said that he had only sold one other when I purchased mine.
Just my experience, good luck.

johnsperformance.com offers the 2 1/2 houston system. Been looking at it as well as all the others because I'm in the same boat-time to put new exhaust in my beast after 17 years (go figure) Has anyone used the cottons system? Trying to decide whether the atr or houston kits are worth the extra $$ over the hooker (other then stainless versus regular steel)

The stainless is worth the extra dough IF you find a system that fits well, and comes with stainless mufflers. The aluminized mufflers don't seem to last very long if you have a "clean" cat, at least mine didn't. I imagine that the aluminized tubing would deteriorate as well, but I'm not positive of it. And for some reason the stainless mufflers seem to eliminate most of the drone over the aluminized but I'm not sure why. Hope this helps.

So I presume then you've been the happiest with the Houston exhaust system?

My Son's '87 Kenwood Grand National (runs 12.3 with a blown head gasket and 900 lbs. of stereo equipment) has Cotton's 2.5 inch dual system. Sounds great - no drown. I have talked to another GN owner who hates his drowning Hooker system. I plan to install the Cotton system in my '86 T Type when my stock system needs replaced. I always check with Jack Cotton and trust what he says. :D

I can usually depend on Jack, just can't always understand him though:D
