I was considering the Hooker 2 1/2 exhaust or stepping up to a 3" system...... What are your thoughts??????

The single 3" ATR is pretty loud. I have been holding off on an ATR dual 3" SS because of the cost, I think I may get it one of these days. I am not in a hurry and thats to my advantage.

If you live where it doesn't snow you may get by with an aluminum unit.

I have installed several Hooker 2 1/2" systems with the Aero Chamber mufflers. For the money this system is great. I run a single shot 3" exhaust with a welded Ultra Flow stright shot muffler. I has a little more noise inside the car than the Hooker system.

I've seen and heard numerous Hooker systems on GN's, and for the money, they are great. They sound very nice, and fit fine. They perform decently for street use, but I would always recommend having a dump cut-out to open up at the track.
If you're willing to spend more, then the ATR systems are worth it too, both in sound and performance. The single-shot 3" works fine, since our cars are not true duals, but, as mentioned, it's loud and does not have the most pleasant exhaust tone. I prefer to try and maximize both flow and sound, since you'll be the one stuck hearing it everywhere you go. ATR's SS dual 3" is gorgeous, but you may need to re-finance your home before purchasing and paying to install...
Although FlowMasters sound great, they are not an ideal muffler for a turbo application, based on how they're designed to work with an exhaust pulse, vs. a continual stream as in our forced induction applications.

Sure seems to be a lot of posts about the Hooker cat back system lately. Take it from me; and I wish I had listened to advice others gave me, a single shot system sure looks nice on paper, less weight, only one muffler and tailpipe to install BUT it sounds like a UPS truck! I asked for advice and didn't take it and paid for it. I took the single shot off after only 200 miles and went with the Hooker and my ears and neighbors are grateful.

Performance wise I don't think there is a lot of backpressure in this system as some unscientific but real world testing at the track gave identical times with the system capped and uncapped. I do like a loud system once in a while and I use an electric exhaust cutout hooked to my dump pipe to achieve this. Check it out! http://www.buickgn.com/electricexhaustcutout.htm

hooker exhaust

I run a hooker exhaust system, (no cat at all) WITH, dyno-max mufflers.
Quiet, no interior noise, can even carry on a conversation in the car while driving! (and listen to the radio!)
Has a slight exhaust note at idle, and under power, will talk to you quietly?
Would I recommend this system? You bet !
noticeable improvement with just the exhaust system, big improvement with the cat removed!
good luck!

I have it and it is much better than the stock system. Is it as good as ATR's stainless dual system? Probably not, but is ATR's system $400 better???? With the cat on, the exhaust is fairly quite. With the cat off, it is on the laud side but not nearly as laud as a single shot. For $280, I don't think it can be beat.
