Exhaust Leak = Knock ?

I just got the 84 back on the road, and It was running INSANE!


20 PSI of boost on pump gas, and alcohol with ZERO Knock!

Over the week that I have had it back together the only thing that has changed on it was I have noticed a few exhaust leaks.


Will exhaust leaks effect the cars performance drasticly? I can now not get over 5 psi of boost at part throttle without lighting up the knock gauge!?


While Cruising, and slowly leaning into the boost the BLM's are at 150 (Lean)? Shouldn't they be at 128?


I am just looking for anyones past experiences with cracked headers, or leaking gaskets..Did it cause your car to knock, and hinder performance.

My '87 GN has the old tick tick tick drivers side exhaust leak.

Still spools like crazy and no KR whatsoever.

A minor leak shouldn't cause either problem you have in MHO.

Got the welded header ready to go on soon too.
