i have a exhaust leak where the manifold and the up pipe connect. i tried copper, red rtv with no prevail. i tried muffler cement with no prevail i tried to close the up pipe end to seal better with no prevail i dont know what to do besides get new headers:confused:

Ok............I'm new to this and haven't put my stuff back together yet but someone said U need to "loosen the turbo from the engine" then install the up pipe. Have you tried this?

they are factory, and i have loosened the turbo. the up pipe is from atr. but i have 2 factory up pipes

hey man i had the same problem it was a leak on the header a minor crack and i thought i was gonna spend lots of money for a new set of headers but instead what i did was i took off the header went down to a muffler shop and got the leak crack whatever welded for 25 bucks and big difference

i checked that and its not leaking. only at the connection from the header to the up pipe

My ATR uppipe has always been an issue. It was a hassle to seal when I had stock headers, and has been worse since the Poston headers.
What I did (thanks to Herb's suggestion, since my brain wasnt working as quick at the time) was to use a donut (crush) gasket between the uppipe and header. It works. You just need to match up one the right size. I searched through a box of them at Auto Zone and found a couple to try. I know I have the part # for the one that I went with somewhere, but Im really not sure where right now.

6SENSE: if you find that part # i would owe you bigtime:) also, do you have any 1/4 miles times or dyno runs on your car...seems like we have almost similar setups...thanks, sTeve

i'd also be interested in getting that part number off ya

that pipe doesnt wanna seal up for nuthing

ok i have a question im a little confused is the up pipe AKA the elbow that hook up to the turbo and header?

hey slow thanks for verifying that for me so fast quick responses r nice i was now wondering y is it that the down pipes that they offer for our cars u know like atr or poston have i three bolt that hooks up to the turbo but the stock one i have and stock turbo have for only 2 bolts?

My stock and ATR both are 2 bolt.
Sure your not looking at a 86-87 down-pipe they are 3 or 4 bolt I believe.

hey slow yeah i might be lookin at the worng ones but ill look into it more ill just call them for the right one i was checkin out ur mods and well im gonna get my turbo rebuilt sometime this week and i wanted ur advice or anyone else out there should i order me a adj. wastegate actuator and have them insatll it while they rebuild my turbo and install it? and did u install that fuel pump hot wire urself? is it ez or difficult

You can make the wastegate you have adjustable.Directions are on www.gnttype.org.
Save some money.Install about the same with or without hot wire kit.
I bought the wire, relays and 30 amp fuse at Radio shack, lot cheaper.
The kit will give you all necessary hardware, connectors.
I just soldered my connection at the fuel pump.Been going strong since 97,with no probs. :D

Okay guys. I found empty packaging from a exhaust flange gasket that may be the one I used. I am pretty sure it is. I also have the receipt for it which I think I kept on purpose to remember the part. Plus the price sounds familiar (because I remember it was higher than most of the other donut gaskets).

AutoZone sku/ref #: 60632
price: $6.89

Remember, its nothing really special, but will work if used right. Line it up as best as you can between the uppipe and header, and tighten down. When you tighten, it will crush and indent from the uppipe.

fireberd350, due to all the internal engine problems Ive had, I have not been to the track in at least a year. With the combo that is shown in my sig now, I have no track history since it is a completely different engine I put in a couple weeks ago while mine was out.
My old combo (which included V1 intake and TA33) with bad camshaft plenty of false KR (17 deg was normal; I would often have to let off the pedal during the run) ran a best of 14.2@96. The engine had a lot of issues to say the least (60 lb. valve springs that were supposed to be 100 lb. LT-1's come to mind too). There was lots of room for improvement. I was expecting 12's. Well, see after I get it back together........ If I can get some money together  .

ok i have a question i need all the bolts that got to the up pipe an downpipe the bolts that hold the up pipe to the turbo and the ones down to the header ? anyone know where i can find these or purchase them ?

the ones at the header are 3/8 x16 x 1 1/2
the ones at the turbo i am not sure but i got all of the bolts at pep boys when i worked for them. amy store or hardware store will have them.
