Yesterday, I was able to get my GN back after having to sell it 6 months ago. Long story, see "A dream come true" in the turbo lounge if interested in the story. Anyway, when I sold the car, it had an LS1 MAF and Translator w/ an extender chip. The car was in the possesion of a used car lot where the owner and his family own several Turbo Regals. It appeared they had not altered anything at all on the car, and had put less than 200 miles on it. It's running in a great state of tune. The extender chip had the anti-theft sequence programmed in and was active when I sold it. Now the anti-theft is not active. I tried to reactivate by resetting the ECM and the other method of 5 quick pedal pumps just after turning key to off. Still no anti-theft. I then cracked open the ECM to look at the chip. I've had so many diff. chips over the years I couldn't remember what the extender looked like. Are there any distinct markings on an extender (from about 1.5 years ago) ? The car is running great, but it does it have to have an extender chip to work with the translator ? I have several other chips in the glove box and tried one that I thought might be it..no anti-theft again. The chip has a green dot on the back, and handwritten 93 street 36lb, but no mention of extender or ramchargers, etc.

congrats on getting your car back

I am not sure about the translator plus
but I have a custom chip in and I have translator and an LS1 maf
if that helps

I do not know what the extender chip looks like however

extender chip usually has a smiley face sticker on it if I'm not mistaken. It's a turbobob trademark. Although I think some others also use it.

Your car does not need an extender chip to work with a translator. There's a switch in the translator that sets it to either a regular chip mode or extender chip mode. The sticker on the inside of the translator lid gives a brief description on switch and pot settings. These switches must be set properly in order to work well with the MAF sensor type and the chip type.

Just went out and check the switches on the translator. The third switch 3 was sent in the down or off position as it should be to run an extender chip. As I posted earlier, the car was running great, so I think the extender chip is still in the car, but I can't get the anti-theft reactivated. Guess I'll have to call the guy who had the car for those six months to see if he changed the chip or how he got around the anti-theft.

Doesn't sound like the extender's in there. If you reset the ECM it should have reactivated the anti theft feature

I got in touch with the owner of the car lot that had been driving the car. He told me he had John and Red burn a chip for the car. He said he did tell John the car has a Translator on it, and supposedly Red burned the chip for that. I know Red's an expert chip burner, but I didn't realize anyone else was burning chips for the higher MAF capabilities. I guess anyone could burn one that way. Only problem..no anti-theft. We are still lookin for the orignal extender chip I had.

I don't think he does/can to work with the Translator. How do the MAF values read out on the scan tool? Are they reading in half of what they actually are?

If your MAF readings are "normal" it's just another chip.

ANY chip will work with the Translator. But there's only one Extender, and it's capabilities to allow for the higher maf flow rates.

Yeah, the MAF and O2 numbers seemed normal on the drive in to work this morning. I guess I'll be ordering another chip if we don't find the extender I had. Small price to pay, especially to get that anti-theft back in a high crime city like Memphis. Thanks for all your help as always. I really did miss this board while I was without the car
