Hate to sound dumb but what is the factory redline on the turbo 6? :)

I do not to be negative but the stock tach and boost gauge are worthless. Redline is controlled buy the ECM and the chip in it. Good luck- Brad

I have an aftermarket Tach and Boost Guage. I'm getting ready to put a Ford 9 inch rear in and I'm trying to figure out the best gears for the 1/8th mile. I had the trans rebuilt with extra clutches so it should be ok. I just wanted to get a starting point for the rear gears and tire size.

Nothing wrong with the stock 3.42's and 26" tall tire. I think the engine combo has more to do with redline than ratio and tire size. What are you running for cam and heads? Bone stock and mild hot air combos do fine with the stock ratio. There are lots of threads on rear gears and tires over in the IC forum.

Factory Redline For the Turbo 6

Maybe it is not such a dumb question after all. It seems that no one know the answer.

fgordon- Your question is a good one but it is way out of my league. I suggest you post it on the general section as well as GNTTYPE.org. Good luck- Brad

5250 with the stock chip. In stock form not it will run out of breath before redline. Stock internals will take 5,700 reliably and I've pushed my almost stock bottom past 6,000 a few times.

Sorry, I just read over the original question again. You don't need the 9" rear, your factory rear is more than good enough but we can save that for another thread...

I would get as close to the factory ratio as possible for a stock block build. Doesn't Ford offer a 3.50 ratio? In my experience with my dad's stock block motor, the factory gears worked great. Once trap speeds approached 120+mph we ended up going with a taller tire to bring rpms down. TTAs run great with a taller gear than we run. Err on the tall side if in doubt.

What is your combo?

Upgraded Turbo, Injectors, Cam, Forged JE pistons 30 over, IC, Hot wire, Electric Fan, Headers, 200R4 with additional clutches.

I posed the question to get some idea of what the bottom end could take since that will remain stock for now. I will probably get a girdle eventually or even a stage II. We have a Regal with a SBC that is going seven "O's" in the eighth mile and I'm going to see if I can get the GN to match that and still be street legal.
