Ok. The GN I just bought has stickers on the windows that claim: "GM - This vehicle is equipped with a factory installed theft warning system." I bought a 1987 Regal/Grand National owners manual that tells me how to use this "system". I still can not understand how to start it up. Any help? Thanks everyone!:smile:

Yep, locking the doors with the pwr lock button arms the system, unlocking with the key disarms.
I do not even get it to flash when I turn the car off and open the door....- Joined

Possible that a owner purchased sticker and put them in the windows?

My car does not have power locks but has the sticker. Probably added later by the owner or incorrectly put in at the factory...
Ok...that was it. The stickers must be false. I could not find an UA6 option code. All I could find was a UA1 code...whatever that is... So, end result...it is not that the system is malfunctioning...it is that it is not there. Thank you all again for your time.

I forget where the box is under the dash, but the easiest way to see if it did actually have a alarm, pull the door panel away from the window and see if you can peek down at the doors lock mechanism.
The switch to shut off the alarm is a push button on the key actuator, drivers side and passenger side.
I bet your cars someone just put on those decals to detour a thief from breaking into your car.

UA1 is the heavy duty battery option that's sitting in a landfill somewhere.

why not a new alarm? most alarms these days have some great features. even the entry level ones will give you a piece of mind. just make sure it comes with a starter kill and ask for it to be placed somewhere other then around your steering wheel. that's the problem with some installers is they get lazy or trying to get work out the door asap and get sloppy. also tell them to hire your valet button somewhere that is hard to see.
i never stole a car but a buddy saw my GN and it didn't have an alarm. i didn't drive it much for about a week and went and got a 2 way remote page alarm for it. i know alot of times thieves can pull the top of your window out far enough to reach in and unlock the door then reach in rip the cover below your steering wheel and have direct access to your alarm. once the power is cut guess what, bye bye car. i've had people i know who could do this within a minute or less. think of that.

there is no reason to drill out a hole for your LED or anything else. most installers use piggy back type compression fittings that bite into the wire and don't break it completely so you don't have to worry about it getting loose. only time i see them cutting corners is when they put door lock relay's in there and sometimes they don't use a DLR kit, they'll put just 2 88 cent relays in there and crimp in the wires and run them where they need to go and bite into your door lock wires in your kick panel. the only wire i can think of they they'll really cut is your starter wire coming from your steering wheel. this needs to be done like that do the wire runs directly through a relay and shuts down any signal to the starter.
back in the early 90's i worked the colonial PGA tounament that comes to town. every day we had X amount of cars with keys locked in them. most people wouldn't care and then someone like myself would have to go unlock them. one time i had a guy in a almost new vette and it had the keys locked in it. they called me and i went up there and there was 2 guys on each side trying to get into this car. i walked up and was laughing and told them to stop before they damage the car. the guy looks at me and says what do you have a slim jim i said yep. walked up to the drivers side pulled the window back about 6 inches reached in and unlocked it. stepped back and opened the door and this guy is looking at me wide eyed and mouth dropped to the floor. he was floored is an understatement. if you ever lock your keys in your car and don't want to chance breaking your window because it can give is take a putter or 9 iron and wedge it in between the window and put a shop towel around the area where the club is rubbing against your paint. hit the unlock and there you go.

is a 2 way remote start paging by autopage. good brand, several functions including backlight remote and chirps or vibrates if i want it to be silent. fully functional with the exception of the start. i wanted it disabled because my car doesn't start within a 3-5 seconds that the cycle it's programmed for and i'd hate to kill my starter if it grinds. i've had them before on my car without any problems and they are great to keep you in the loop if your car is in eye sight but you don't really have to keep an eye on it. i have a dual zone shock sensor that lets me get a warning chirp on the remote and the siren also chirps a few times to let me know someone bumped it. i can get about 100 yards as long as it's line of sight. in a store isn't a problem unless it walmart or the mall. all the other features i have are the norm, door lock and unlock, starter kill, valet switch, i can set it to auto set after the last door closes. i didn't set it to pop my trunk but can with a relay if needed.
the vette was funny, nothing like a guy with some cash seeing how quick someone can get into his car. i've had them tip me 20-50 to do that for them. i'd usually do 3-6 a day some people wouldn't tip but most knew i did it as a favor and usually gave me something. there are alot of cars you can do that to if they don't have the top part of the window that goes into a door frame. it'll come back i'll guarantee it. if for some reason you try it just don't pull too far. i had one guy tell me that i must steal cars, i looked him dead in his eye and told him i don't have to steal i'd take his car if i wanted it. told him i know how but never had to steal. i swear some people are real ignorant, they stereotype people because they are of a different race. oh well life goes on. the only reason i said i could take it is because we always left the keys in the car in that valet lot. after reading my post i realized i made it seem like i was threatening him but it wasnt. nothing is worth my freedom. not even a nice ride, besides i drove nicer cars when i valeted other people's cars.

I'd think the most likely cause of your inop factory alarm is an aftermarket performance chip. I understand many guys will have them burned w/o the alarm feature thus disabling it ...
