My belief is we need population control... due to the advances in medicine the process of natural culling has been thrown out of balance. We need to control the weak, sick, stupid, and genetically inferior from breeding back into the gene pool. If everyone who owns a gun shoots and kills one dumbass in their lifetime, that would keep the natural balance in check, and maybe just maybe the morons would figure out they can't screw people out of money or break into someones house or steal someones beloved Turbo Regal....

Did you see the transcript of the guy in TX who killed the two burgalers a few months ago. He saw two guys breaking into the house next door and called 911. During the conversation he racks off his shotgun and says "ya hear that, I'm going in"!! The next thing is him yelling freeze and immediately two shots. He comes back on the phone and says I killed one of em, the other is hit, but he's running down the road. :biggrin: :biggrin:

Well, the apparent policies on gun ownership dont appear to be working so I think more restriction are a move in the right direction. He's not saying people cant own guns hes just making straw sales and stricter background checks more of a priority. I dont see anything wrong with that.

If law abiding people are buying guns cause they think they will have no access to them shortly they apparently arent paying much attention to what he is trying to accomplish.

Again, our country has more gun violence then almost all other civilized countries in the world put together. Changes need to be made. Its that simple. Current policies are failing. Period.

How many of the people in jail for gun violence are the products of drug ridden, single parent, inner city family structures? As a society...we rely on the teachers, policemen, social workers...etc to raise our kids. What about the parents responsibility? I have many guns that are at my house...loaded...I mean with one in the hole...ready!! There is no chance under the sun that my kid shoots anybody... You want to know why??

I don't know about more gun violence than all the civilized countries combined ( a link maybe?). But they have been chopping each other up with machetes in Africa for centuries. Do you think registering machetes stops that violence?

If legislating morality worked...drug rehabs wouldn't exist...bars and liqour stores wouldn't exist...but they do.

Maybe we could set ourselves up for the next set of cool Mafia movies....1st there was Al Capone (booze)...then there was Pablo Escobar ( drugs)...Next.... "Whatever Gang" (guns)

Funny thing...we were given the second ammendment to protect ourselves against any unfair government that may seek to infringe upon our unalienable rights as outlined in the constitution....WELL...the most openly "socialist appearing" president we have EVER had wants to limit my ability to buy a gun...

Let this type of legislature pass and I promise you will only turn law abiding taxpayers into criminals. Because I will never register a firearm because the government tells me to...and I am not the only one (by a long shot). It's nobody's business but mine.

Obama should see to it that the existing laws are enforced, instead of making new ones.

Current policies are failing because they are not enforced.

IE. I am filling criminal charges against somone who wrote me a bad check for contrator services rendered. She already has 340 judgements against her for monies owed and it still walking the streets. Our attorney general has not charged her once. I am forcing the issue and she will be charged for fraud against me but the others will not be applied to her.
Crime pays, that's why they do it. When it doesn't they won't

I remember when the ban was in affect before on AW's. I remember seeing some but only in the hands of PEOPLE THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE THEM

That's not gonna ever happen. Guns are too popular for it to ever get that extreme. The problem is the only people committing the crimes ARE the criminals so whatever can be done stop straw purchases in particular could only be a good thing IMO.

We already have laws on the books that make crimes with guns illegal, make it illegal for criminals to have guns and so on and so forth. More laws aren't going to change anything and then you will say that the only answer is confiscation. That's the first step to tyranny.
Even if you can conclusively prove that murders will go down with any kind of confiscation regimen, I would be completely against it. Once we as a populace are unarmed, we no longer have the ultimate check on government power.

One only need look at the result of Ruby Ridge and Waco to see why this is the case. The federal government is significantly more cautious in its dealings with people in similar situations. They were armed, they fought back, and their actions embarrassed the federal government. While individually their battles were lost, it highlighted an overbearing and heavy handed federal government. We haven't seen much in the way of tanks and military helicopters used on private citizens since. Government sponsored murder of women and children has gone down as well. That's always subject to change if we let people confiscate the means of defending ourselves.
Every now and then, the govt needs to be reminded that we are citizens and not subjects.

No offense Brett, but you are wrong on this subject. And I seriously mean that with all due respect to your profession and experiences. You said it yourself, Howbout stricter controls on them ever being able to get them in the first place, the current laws are plenty to stop felons or other convicted criminals from purchasing a firearm. The problem is not the people buying them under current regulations, but those who are buying them illegally. And no gunshows are not a good example. I was at one last weekend and I would be willing to bet not one gun bought there will ever be used in a violent crime. Seriously, like Chris said, what pot head bought their pot legally. I can understand you as a police officer not wanting to deal with a armed public, but that's what you signed up for. It would be infinetely easier for the police and the gov't to do many things if that pesky Second Amendment was not there. More gun control will not keep guns out of the hands of criminals. One thing our society has proven is that by taking something away, i.e. alcohol, drugs, it will only create a vacuum for more criminals to make more money from the trafficing of those items.

Loopholes, what loopholes, if you want a gun you either buy it legally or you don't! If you don't you are a criminal and it wouldn't have mattered if it was illegal or legal anyway, it would have just cost a little more.

I didn't know that Brett was a police officer (so it seems anyway) if he is, it illustrates my point perfectly.

Any student of history will certainly know that the police are the front line enforcers of any tyrannical government when they rise to power. I for one am glad that they don't patrol our streets with out any fear of repercussions for their actions.

I'm relieved in a way that he is upset and afraid that the population has access to the same level of force that he does. That tells me the second amendment is doing its job. He will be more reluctant to trample on the rights of citizens when his life is at risk.
These kind of things (trampling of rights) happen even if he doesn't necessarily agree with them. People "just follow orders" all the time. There is some kind of psychological effect that shuts off individual morality when you are carrying out the will of an organization or command structure. I do not know the name, but it has been well documented. It's a favorite defense of war criminals and "yes men" for despots. It happens in US cities from time to time.

I do not wish him or any good police officer harm but one must always remember that power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

I have to say with America having the largest population of Prisoners in the world it does seem we set up laws that are against "rational thought" IMO. When a person is 100% guilty, ie on tape several reliable 1st hand accts, etc... The maximun penalty should be enforced if it was a REAL crime. However "some" of the stuff people are in jail for are simply redicilious and a burden on the tax payer. It costs more to house a prisoner than to take care of 3 or 4 familes of 4 for a year What kind of rational sense does that make...

i remember when england gave up thier arms. That was a sad day in history. But we got to ALL remember who is behind all of this. That the UN is behind most of it. so who do we got to blame. I feel that it was all them presidents dictators and parliments that agreed to make this UN group after all i have still to see them idiots do anything wright.
I say that everyone has a right to live but are you really FREE! our forfathers did not intend to make laws that would take my freedom but to set forth a few laws to keep your freedom. The constution has been so twisted and turned upsidedown that we dont know what is right.
It was ten comedments that God gave us to live by. Why do we as people have to twist it? I feel that if we all would just mind our own bees wax we would be better off. I had a history teacher tell me this "My freedom stops where your nose begins." Think about it it is truth.
Lets talk about the guns:
1: guns dont kill people! people kill people!
I can leave my gun on the table loaded and cocked will it go off on its own? NO! It is a michanical object. with out an energy to pull the triger it will not go off.
2:No way shape or form will taking guns keep them from the crooks. The black market will be thier to serve the crooks.
3:Taking the resposibilty for guns is like taking the responsibillty for you kids
