*****Do you have a functioning catalytic convertor? If you don't, you need to get one. Lots of cars have the shell of the convertor only, with the guts removed to improve performance.. The car will not pass without it functioning, as we have the IM240 treadmill test here in MD. It's pretty strict.

Also, make sure you have fresh oil, good plugs, check spark wires for breaks, coilpack, clean air filter, make sure car is really warm, etc.. If you do a search on this subject, I posted what I had to do to get my car to pass in Maryland. It finally passed, but it took some work to get it done.

Good luck

*****You could fill the entire tank up with Iso-Heet, and it will still not pass MD emissions without a functioning cat convertor.

I've seen people pass the basic sniffer test like they have in other states by putting a bit of dry gas in the tank and leaning things out somewhat, good plugs, fresh oil, etc.. and without a good cat convertor - I used to do the same in Maryland before they started doing the treadmill IM240 test.

Save your money, and get the Cat..

What kind of downpipe do you have? If it's a THDP or something similiar, purchase the cat from RamChargers for $139.00.

Mine failed miserably without it, and then passed with flying colors with it.

Keep it in the box when you don't need it. A brand new converters works great. Only takes me about 10 minutes to install or remove.
