Well, I failed my visual because I had a breather on the passenger valve cover (emissions were way below average, but I guess that's not whats important  )

I did a search and I think that my TE44 turbo does not have the opening needed to connect the tube from where the breather currently is to complete the PCV system... so what is my best option? Run a line from the driver's side to the filter? Does it matter if the line connects before or after the MAF? or did I read wrong and does the TE44 have the inlet? And if so, where is it? What performance advantage is there to having the breather and the open PCV system?

Thanks, can't wait to hook this up so I can pay $50 for a re-test...

I don't think it's an issue of before or after the MAF, unless the air velocity is higher before the MAF. I susepct that if the hose sets too low it may have atendacy to suck oil from the crankcase. Turbonetics runs a version of the TE series turbos on their cheetah line. If someone can chime in maybe they can describe the vent side of the PCV system. Otherwise I suggest putting a port on the MAF pipe to accomodate the KV breather. The deal with the closed PCV system is that any blowby gases are contained in the engine and burned during combustion.

The stock set-up takes air after the MAF, because of the open-loop/closed-loop idle. The MAF meters the air coming in, and a portion of that air goes through the valve cover, then through the crankcase, then back into the intake manifold by way of the PCV valve. If the hose is not connected downstream of the MAF, then the air flowing through the valve cover, and on to the intake, is not metered. It may end up being out range for the ECM to make the corrections, and will almost surely be out before you get to closed loop. Of course, with the stock chip, that part of the idle is pretty bad anyway.

well, I ended up running a line from the driver's valve cover to between the MAF and air filter. smog guy thought it was fine like that.
