what is the fastest hot air car known or what is the fastest bolt on car with stock heads/turbo?

i think lee thompson ran 10's w/ no I/C but he obviously didnt have stock heads or turbo....as for that I have no idea, I'd have to say no quicker than a low 13 on a stock turbo

When Lee last ran his car without the alky, and with the stock block, stock (ported) heads and one of the first upgrade turbos that John Craig made for Hot-Airs, he ran in the 11.45 thru 11.55 around the 115-117 mph range.

crazygn went 12.2 with stock heads and could of went faster that that .

faster with porting

Everyone has told me thus far, you must port the heads and intake if you wish to run a decent quarter. there is next to no point in upgrading the turbo if your intake has small ports and runners. Your heads and intake should be maximised so that the turbo can be optimumly used. The chip and exhaust are the next best thing to change, adn these mods should put you within the low 12 area with good tuning.
As for stock everthing and perfect tuning, you may pull 14.1 or 14.00 at best with no work done. That is pushing it.

14.0 is possible with some tweaking <$100 in mods. We did it in '95. The stock turbo will go 105-106mph traps maxed out so you can go 12s with it and traction. There have been stock longblock IC cars going 10.70s with a ton of boost and big turbo/IC so there's no reason a hotair couldn't either since it uses the same cam/heads. The intake does have to be ported sooner though as the 87 flows quite a bit more. I wanted to be the fastest intercooled hotair but by the time mine is running again, they will probably be in the 9s. One name that seems familiar and I could be wrong but isn't there a guy named Scott Porter that went 11s and 120mph traps with a pretty basic setup and an intercooler like 10 years ago? I remember thinking I was the first to think to relocate the TB with the intercooler and then I discovered he had already figured it out.

On a side note since personal reasons forced me to move back home, I might just stay there for 6 months to save up and build a hotair with TA performance parts and some extra displacement. Should be fun and I could beat the crap out of it with some form of reliability.

I just went back and read the original question. You absolutely won't go faster than 106mph in the 1/4 on the stock turbo no matter what heads you have. I've broken the shaft on two stockers at those speeds. If you can hook it you might get a mid 12.

I went 13.6 at 97 mph on stock heads/turbo/injectors/downpipe-headers-crossover. With 110 octane and 22 psi of boost.

As nice as that would be, I think he made it deep into the 11s on a VERY stockish hotair. Didn't his wife run the hotair and he ran the IC car? If I'm wrong, that would be cool.

Actually the hot air was his wife's Marka and the fastest she ever went was 11.62 @ 113.44 mph, her engine has been balanced and blue printed with the turbo, had Kenne bell headers, Block surfaced and heads decked. With a 3 angle valve job. Car weighs about 3450 with Marka in it and the cage (also could contribute to the times) Mine weights 3765 with me in it. I would like to put mine on a diet... LOL :D

turbowrenchhead

Hey I didnt know that you worked at the same spot as Ben! (Small world huh?)
Anyways, I cant find your number--I need your advice on something and I was trying to find it but I guess I lost it. Please mail me w/ your number at mrtechniques@yahoo.com

The car might not have been that stock but the engine was. This was unported heads and intake, a very stock like turbo, no extra displacement, and no intercooer.

Car Gone

Cool 84 your right about Scott Porters car going 11's with a custom set up intercooler ( he rerouted the pipes) but, his car burned in a house fire about 3 years ago and he hasn't built another ( as of last year ). I have pictures of his motor from the GS Nats in Columbus OH.

Race, that's where I read the info I have posted on my reply. I have spoke with John in the past, when I was deciding if this was something I wanted to do or not... :D

I know there was John at Bowling Green who has ran 11.78 on his hot air pretty much stock and not a lot done to it. He's been racing his for a while. Did have to replace his motor recently. But he seems to do alright on his hot air.

Locally there was a friend of Mine- Men in black that ran 13.30's on pretty much all stock. He had his motor gone through and headers were upgraded, with a ta49 turbo. It was really impressive...

13.98@99 is my fastest time with lots of tire spin off the line from fwd cars trailing water from the burnout box. kinda stock...just intake, 30lb injectors, afpr, elec fans, kenne bell chip, 100 pump, and drag radials.

Actually, John Bruce is a buddy of mine and he has gone high 11's without an IC. But his car is far from stock. He's got a cam, exstensive head and intake porting, TA-33, 009's, and LT Dp, Up and headers among other things. Not taking anything away from him because his car is faster than mine but John has been, along with Lee, at the forefront of racing fast HotAirs and absolutely knows his stuff. And yes, he's replaced his blown 3.8 with a non stage 4.1. Give him this season to play with this new motor and he'll be pushing mid 11's.
