I was just curious as to how fast can you really go with say a 3400 to 3600 lb full interior GN with the bone stock engine internals and with just a turbo and intercooler upgrade and such...basically using all "bolt ons" possible...

How fast can I go with a TE-44, V4, and 50's? this is with a stock motor...can the heads flow enough to support it?

I am sure this is not the fastest that will get posted here but to get the ball rolling a local guy I have been help has run a best of 7.22 in the 1/8 at 96.? mph. This is a bone stock motor (no valve spring change etc).
Hope this helps, Kip

lots of TR's running mid-high 11's with your setup....no engine mods

That's probably about it...
Your'e almost there already dOn-3d,
add a 44, V4 and injectors and you should be
solidly in the 11's:D
I'm shooting for the 11 slip with a stock turbo and
I/C, I think she's got it in her:p

dan powell runs a stock longblock,best pass is a 11.24 @ 118.8 mph 1.62 60'.he runs a lot of boost.

later,sean

I just called about a car last night that ran 11.81 with a ta49, 37 lb injectors, V4 intercooler, THDP and all the other normal mods. The time was turned leaving the line with no boost and using BFG drag radials.

I've changed the valve springs, but other than that the engine has never been apart. My car weighs 3560. Combo and times are in my sig. Boost was 35ish.

35 lbs? good lord! is it good for the motor to even cram that much air in it if it can't flow it enough?

Good for it? Drag racing isn't "good" for an engine, but we do it anyway!;) You've got to get air through the motor to make power. Ported heads/intake/cams gives air a better path through the engine. Big boost crams it through what GM gave you. Just don't detonate!

Scott Keller of GNTTYPE fame has gone 11.90s with stock longblock, turbo and intercooler. He did add Blue Tops to get there though.

See my sig for almost identical setup, 'cept for my front mount.
Crappy 1.7 60's though kept me from clicking off any 11.50's

I went 10.96 @122 with factory stock long block, PTE 54, CAS FM, MSD 50s, ect.....not sure how much boost, the gauge only went to 30psi :D

11.24 @ 121+, bone stock long block, not even valve springs, 26-27 PSI. Sufficient power, IMO, to run high 10s with the same boost, a harder launch, a sticky track and cool to cold weather.

Our cars will get into the high 10s on a bone stock long block, but not without lots of boost, as the stock heads are corks, and reliability will eventually suffer.

Most guys go to heads before they dip into the 10s - there aren't many examples of stock headed, 10 second cars.

I'd call a car with a 44, a V4 and 50s a mid-11s car, give or take, although lots of guys have gone slower with this combo for various reasons...

Cars with stock turbo, injectors, I/C, etc. have dipped into the high 11s.

A 44 moves enough air to go 10s if EVERYTHING is just right...

A 44 will out flow the stock heads. That's why we keep putting bigger and bigger turbos on stock headed cars - LOL. Heads move the compressor down on its curve, where it flows a lot more air.

:D

yeah with the stock turbo, injectors, intercooler, motor, pretty much everything i went 12.2 @ 112 with a very nice 12 lb launch with sticky tires...good track...good 60 ft...and 23 lbs of boost...i was pretty lean too because of the injectors...

i would assume with a factory motor and with my combo i should see mid 11's no problem...maybe low 11's with major tuning and lots of luck...

oh yeah i have a question...at what boost level does the te-44 become in-efficient? 27 lbs? 28? meaning when does it start just blowing hot air like the stock turbo does at around 24 lbs...

44 & 50#ers are the best for a real street car I used to run consistent 11.70-11.80 on 20# boost went to 24#s
and ran 11.36 @118.......great combo real sreetable

d0n_3d,

That's the $64 question. Has anyone other than Garrett seen the compressor curves for popular Buick turbos?

In the meanwhile, for your amusement, here's a compressor map for a Turbonetics T76:

http://www.turboneticsinc.com/comp_maps/t76.html

Looks like the efficiency at the sweet spot is 78%. Of course, as you move away from the sweet spot the efficiency drops. Lower efficiency equals higher discharge temperature. That ain't all bad, depending upon the performance of your intercooler...

:)

i've heard the te-44's sweet spot is 25 lbs and the max is 28 lbs with a v4 intercooler...is that true?
