How Feasible would it be to convert a Monte Carlo 4.3L V6 with 200 tranny to a turbo car?

Pretty sure its the same block as the Sy/Tys so could you just swap intake and heads and ecu? Probably a good idea to swap the trans and rear end too I would think. My guess is you could use a regular TR down pipe and exhaust (aftermarket preferably) and any of the turbos normally used on TRs as well. I would think you would need custom headers and up pipe though.

Just curious, not planning to do this.

i think it would be a whole lot cheaper to just use vortec heads and intake and some kind of engine management than to try to get sy/ty parts. those trucks are very rare, and the parts would cost a pretty penny. somebody probably makes turbo headers for the 4.3, but it would be cheaper to chop up some stockers and DIY. you might want some lower compression pistons as well. i'm sure they'd be cheap since that motor has the same bore as the 350.

Most of the 4.3's from that era are around 9.30:1 compression. Regular cast pistons without the support like the turbo 3.8 pistons have. You should lower compression at least to 8.00:1 to make the best of it. A good set of heads like Henschman said because the heads that are on that car will probably have half of the intake port blocked off up to the valve stem. GM's poor attempt to induce swirl into the chamber. I plan on throwing a little hotair turbo onto my 4.3 in my S-10, but I have an extra engine to build with forged pistons, Comp Cams 206/206 roller, hand made headers, a set of ported 229 V6 heads, swap the fuel injection from TB to port injected.

the enigine that was used in the syty trucks is nothing more than a VIN Z TBI engine with a few changes. those changes were in the intake and the cam specs other than that the engine's bottom end remained the same. thats why there so notrious for pistons breaking.

I agree if you are going to do a 4.3L chevy take the time a get a set of vortec heads. The fuel management just get a TBI truck manifold and do some home fab work and install 6 injectors on the runners and use a 454 TBI throttle body. then all you would need is a 1227749 ecm and then just get a custom wiring harnes from pain less wiring for that ecm and your done. ( Also the 749 ecm is the ecm that was used in the syty trucks)

Now you will have to costom fab some exhaust manifolds unless you can find a set of manifolds and cross-over from a syty.

i have been thinking about a chevy in my buick :) but still staying turbo 6

Good to know about the pistons. Always heard lots of trouble with the 4L60's in the SyTy's but didn't know about the piston breakage. This is the block I think I will use. Was going to be another project, but that is far off for now.
