Looking for advice from someone that has installed one. My issue is the directions for the two side pieces against the the main. It says to lube, then drive the pin flush, no sealant?.. No RTV or anything? Just want to understand that these 2 side pieces seal with nothing but lube & the pin installed correctly... don't mind following directions, but seems odd to me no sealer of any kind....or am I missing something here??

You can simplify the matter by tossing those side pieces in the $hit can where they belong and instead fill those cavities with a quality sealer. I use the grey RTV you can find at any automotive supply. This is the way to go. The sealer when applied with pressure, squeazes out both sides of the main cap seam and I've never had one leak. ;^)

Thanks Red Regal T ;)... But that's it from the buick peeps here? No one has put one of these seals in? I'd rather do what Red said because it makes sense to me, that's why I asked. But I still like to know if any have used this seal as described???

toss the side seals and the nails

shoot "the right stuff" up the channels until it comes out the cap seam and forgetaboutit

Thanks for the input... makes sense at least.

I used the rubber ones and just put rtv on the mating surface. Lasted about 2 months. Thought about trying the rope style but sounds like just rtv is the way to go.

do you have the rear cap slightly loose so that the silicone can OOZ out of the bottom of the channel and onto the block, and then do you torque the cap down??

no.. torque the cap

the cap edge is beveled and the rtv when filled will squirt out of that bevel area to the front and back of the cap at the mating surface

I've done it both ways, for me the RTV was a huge FAIL. Had to drop the pan after 10 minutes of run time and reinstall the rubber blocks and pins, no more trouble since then. In fact, both things I did differently this time were FAILS. The rear seal and the Remflex exhaust gaskets that blew out with less than 1 hr run time. That was a 2 day job removing the headers and redoing it with hi-temp RTV.

thanks for the reply dude

i guess i got lucky when i did the one on my old motor

Check out this slop job and it lasted a long time 4 years and a lot of beatings.

As you can see i silicone'd the crap out of it, i was careful around the crank and cap oil passages but i used the silicone like if it was free and some body else paid for it, And i did put some on under the cap.

Looking back i am happy i had a professional do the one on my new/current engine.
