Hello, new to the form. I recently discoverd my dad had a turbo he pulled off a old buick. I dunno much about turbos, just some basics. So I grabbed it and tried to find much info as I can about it cuz I was thinking of using it. I found out it came off a 1979 rwd buick and its made by garret. So what can you tell me about this turbo? I was thinking I could use in on a s10 with the 4.3L engine, would this work well? Also I tried to spin the blades and they don't spin freely, so from what I understand it needs new bearings, if I do use it where can I get a rebuild kit?

The markings on it are as follows:
Exhaust turbine Housing:
-AIResearch
-53 over 14 in a circle
-A/R .82 ACD

on the intake turbine it has a tag, mostly small writing but could read:
Rebuilt for General Motors
S/N MJR0753
P/N 25516899

Below are a few pics still attached to the carb:

Thanks in advance for any help!
-Sterling

In all honesty youd prob do better picking up a used stock one off the parts section , if it is binding chances are its toasted . I dont know too much the specs of the 4.3 but i dont think it going to take alot of boost . With the s 10 youd prob do better dropping in a Small block , i pretty sure you can find the info somewhere on the net for that swap and i think you do better power wise and dollar wise . Then you can turbo the small block later on if you looking to upgrade or do a millon other things :D

ok thanks, I was researching some too on turbos and I think if I do turbo I'll just buy a new one, that way its right. I thought about an engine swap, but I like the 4.3 and the gas mileage I get with it.

Got you , my Buick when it was more stockish got about 23mpg on a ride to Texas from NY doing about 70-80 mph ................once your foot is in it though the mileage factor goes out the window .
