I have not drilled the mounting holes in mine, but the surfaces are surprisingly smooth. I used a few coats of filler primer and sanded smooth, but that is all the fronts needed. Haven't really touched the rears yet. For fitment, you usually have to elongate the holes a little for a perfect fit, and be able to adjust/ move them a little for perfect fit. Some guys have said they had to use a little filler, but most do not. I have seen a handful of them where guys prep themselves, and even buy a "nice" rattlecan paint can and paint them. As long as they are sanded smooth, prepped, etc, they usually turn out nice, even home painted. My car is not nice enough to warrant having someone professionally paint them. Me painting them is good enough for the girls I go out with.
