Ok well here's how my trans acts now..
It shifts into 2nd around 3,000rpm..and I was determined to get it to shift into 3rd today (which I have yet to do since I got it back, though I was told it got into 3rd) So I got on it alittle and got into 2nd around 30-35mph like usual..then it didnt shift into 3rd til prolly between 4,000-4,500rpm or around 65-70mph..
So how can I lower the shift points or make them better??
Will adjusting the TV cable help? I'm also hearing that I'd need a new governor, how much do they cost and are they easy to install??
Do you think this will help or is there somethin else that could be a problem??
Thanks

I bought the tranny off of a guy on this board (V six) it's out of an '87 gn with 45,000 miles on it.
After we put it in, we didnt think it shifted into 3rd, and the converter locked up when we stopped..so we replaced the TCC solenoid and now for some reason it'll shift into 3rd (but VERY late)
It shifts out of 1st at around 3,000rpm..then into 3rd around 4,500rpm or around 60-65mph.
I know this isn't right and I heard that if the governor is bad it could be responsible for this happening..

First off without knowing the full history, it will be tough to guess what the culprit is, probably more like a process of elimination. I would verify that the VB and gov. are the correct one's for a BRF, if they are then the next thing is pull the vb and check 2-3 shift valvetrain. To identify the vb and gov. checkout this link, the bottom 10 pic's, notice the 2 pressure switches and paint code on vb and the weights and spring on the gov.

By the way according to Joe, the tranny worked perfect at the time it was pulled from the car.
I feel confident that it's a BRF VB because it came out of a 1987 GN, there's a BRF tag on it and the car drives exactly like it should..it has the same kinda pickup as a normal GN would (my brother also had one) the only thing messed up is when it shifts.
I have yet to get into 4th gear yet because I think I'd probably have to almost redline 3rd to get it in there..and by that time I'd be going reeeaaalllyyyy fast..so I dont wanna try it.
BUT a new governor costs $130..now from what Im hearing alot of these signs point toward the governor, but I dont wanna spend $130 unless I know for sure.
So say we assume it's a BRF VB and gov and everything is the way it should be, where do we go from there??
I don't exactly have the knowledge to pull the VB and inspect the shift valves, so I dont know what to do.
Like I said..it pretty much shifts into 2nd around 3,000rpm, then you basically have to redline 2nd to get it into 3rd..and Im assuming you'd have to redline 3rd to get it into 4th..what does this mean?
Thanks

If it was simply the gov. you'd have all early or all no shifts. people can say it's the gov. and you can try, but I doubt it's bad . Mis-calibrated with the vb maybe. Without knowing what you have for sure in the pan and not being able to verify anything by pulling it, I don't know how you exspect to find much less solve your problem, unless you send it to someone and I wouldn't pay to have it rebuilt 'til you have the prob. solved.
