No, you're not a criminal, but the goverenment is treating you like one. I don't mean to sound like a heartless, no-good, SOB, but I put my (and everyone elses) Constitutional rights far before and child. Pretty soon the goverenment will be able to track every postal stamp that goes out. Of course you people will say that's good, until they one day come for you.
Also, I understand certain jobs should fingerprint. I don't have a problem with the FBI, Secret Service, etc. fingerprinting new workers (sorry if I sound like I'm caving in, patriot/militia crowd, but you know I love you).
OK.. you said it yourself and I'm going to go with it. You said certain jobs like FBI, Secret Service, etc should have criminal background checks. I don't see why 'teachers' shouldn't have to undergo the same thing. I went to college for many years to be a teacher and I'm acutely aware of what legal infractions could put my career in serious jeopardy. Not to mention thrown in jail.
It's no secret that I don't agree with your 'politics'. With that being said, I'll extend this compromise.
Agree with....
--Putting sex offenders in jail and letting them rot there!!! I have no problem with that! Not treating those who are sleeping with a 17 year old when they are not much older as criminals! Yes, the saying is true.. 15 will get ya 20. And everyone should know that and be careful of that. Won't catch me sleeping with any 17 years olds any time soon. But I think that is more of a minor (pardon the pun) infraction.
--As for serving pizza. Fingerprinting.. hrmm.. just as a volunteer thing. I'm sure that's the law and it does seem a bit steep. I do know in many schools if you volunteer in the school you simply need to show identification, sign in and out of the building and have a visitors badge. I hope signing a piece of paper isn't too much to ask!!! Still fingerprinting for that to me isn't a big deal. If it is a big deal to you.. simply don't volunteer.
--It was mentioned that kids are TOO protected in our society. That they shouldn't be so sheltered and actually exposed more to the 'real' world. I would partially agree with that. Kids are very much over protected. To a point that a kid with a gun can walk into a school, kill ten people and know that the courts will have most likely take pity on him, try him as a juvenile and he'll get a slap on the wrist. Trust me, I've worked with kids that should have the snot kicked outta them. But I've also worked with a lot more kids that don't deserve any such treatment, yet there are adults who will still cause harm to children. So.. for that reason, yes children should be protected still.
Disagree with...
--Teachers and/or persons working with children not being checked out thoroughly. As you said, they should let these creeps rot behind bars. But they don't. Some were never behind bars to begin with but have arrest warrants as long as this post. I don't want some WANTED possibly dangerous sex offender working in the same school with children that I do. Once again, I have nothing to hide and as a part of my job, this is something I need to do and will do gladly to prove that I am not a threat to these children.
--Holding the rights of our Constitution above that of children. Nobody is saying take away your rights. But do children deserve less?? Do children deserve lesser grades of protection because you don't want anybody to see what your fingerprints are?? It is NOT that big of a deal. If the government wanted your fingerprints that bad, they'd just wait until you take your trash out, take a soda can and lift the prints off of that! There are a hundred ways to get your prints. WHO CARES!! You get locked up for something they're going to take your prints anyways.
OK.. I'm glad I got this out. Agree with me or not. It doesn't matter. Deal with it as you need to. If serving pizza isn't that important then don't do it. Problem solved. If it is that important... get a job at Pizza Hut and you can serve as much pizza to children as you want.
