This is a little bit of a story but I was wondering what the possibilities are.

On my way out of Baltimore this morning I saw a guy in a Porsche 911. Tags said FLT SIX so I figured, he was an enthusiast. We were sitting at a traffic light. When the light went green, he made the left turn (at Camden Yards) and takes off up I-395. This guy was really getting on it! I thought; OK, that's strange for a Porsche guy to play around like that, but all the power to him. I was in my Trailblazer sitting behind a bus at the time so he wasn't trying to race me.

OK.. so here's where things get wierd. I didn't think anything else of it and drove down I-95 like normal. Granted, I don't exactly do the speed limit either, but I figured this guy was long gone. About 15 - 20 miles down the road, there's a back up. I thought... construction... maybe an accident that they didn't report on traffic radio... stupid people in the slow lane doing 55. Anyways, everyone is creeping along at about 10-20mph. Finally I get up to where a Fire and Rescue Van is blocking the fast lane with his lights on. Then I see the Porsche. The Porsche had NO damage on it but it was directly behind the van and stopped at a 45 degree angle, half on the shoulder. It appeared as if the driver of the van talked to the driver of the Porsche.

Now what I was wondering is if he got busted for speeding somehow by this Fire and Rescue van. Or maybe a police officer was in the van. Do the Fire and Rescue Depts have any type of authority like that?

Sure enough, the van started driving again and the Porsche followed suit, but wasn't going any faster then the speed limit. Yes, it could have been some type of medical emergency, but it didn't seem like it. When the van left, his overhead lights were off. The driver of the Porsche didn't look to happy.

Anyways.. just seemed wierd. Thought maybe someone here could shed some light.

theories

FWIW, me thinks that the EMS driver somehow saw the 911 coming and managed to stay in front of him and force him to stop, and then gave him something of a tongue lashing to the effect of driving responsibly and not endangering the motoring public. I don't think EMS has the authority to pull people over. In fact, I'd think that EMS would be in a heap of trouble if stopping on the highway ended up causing an accident and it would be on EMS. The 911 must have gotten boxed in, else I can't see any other reason that would cause him to stop.

Any EMS please correct me if I'm wrong.

BTW, are there still unmarked Mustangs patrolling the Baltimore area?

Maryland uses all sorts of wacky stuff. Mustangs in Baltimore is nothing. State highway trucks with radar guns mounted... Camaros... heck, I know they drive BMWs in the county I live in. Sneaky stuff.

if a "cop" tries to pull you over in their BMW just run and be like "i thought it was a fake cop trying to get me to pull over so id have to give them sexual favors to get out of a ticket and im no man-whore"

hahahaha

Here a fire marshall can issue tickets for parking in a fire lane or other relavent citation. They can't pull over speeders.

Theoretically he could have done that, although thats absolutely a stupid thing to do.... the other option is maybe the porsche spun out and didnt hit anything??

Im in the fire dept and the last thing Im gonna do is bother speeders, its not my problem. Only otehr thing is MAYBE it was a police ambulance, then technically they could pull the guy over, however most dont bother, but ive seen it happen.

I don't recall seeing any skidmarks or smoke. Next time I drive through there, I'll see if that's a possibility. Seemed odd that the EMT was RIGHT there.

I can tell you out here it would be a misdemeanor for fire personnel to activate their emergency equipment for anything other than a bona-fide fire/medical emergency.
