I started my '86 for the first time today and it's running like crap.

Any ideas what could be causing this? I don't remember if the wideband is calibrated right.

I'd agree with that.

Need more details....

Cranked it for the first time this year.... after a rebuild.... after you blew it up??

It has a dead miss...... also making alot of underhood smoke like you got oil all on the headers... or is leaking oil real bad......

Do you have a datalogger?

Holy smokes! You have killer exhaust leak or a blown head gasket.

The blinking ce light says the chip not seated or it's bad.

When you started it yesterday did it run better than today?

Have you done any work on it recently or raced it?

Put a new turbo, 55lb low-impedance injectors, Armstrong ECM/double-pumper/chip, and an exhaust I built on it. I had the plug wires off and put them back on in what I thought was the correct order.

It's always leaked oil and smoked when it's cold and now the passenger window won't go up/down. I don't have a datalogger.

Sorry for the double post, was typing on my Blackberry.

Recheck Plug wires

on coil pack
back 3 to the fire wall are cylinders 1 5 3 from left to right

and the 3 closer to the radiater are cylinders 4 2 6 left to right

Passenger side front to back is 2,4,6
Driver side is front to back 1,3,5

You might check as already suggested..... the chip.... and calpac...... they might not be seated correctly... or have a bent pin?

That SES light should not be flashing like that......

The chip is as far in as I can get it. I don't know what the calpac is.

Could a bad battery have anything to do with this?

The chip is as far in as I can get it. I'm not sure what the calpac is.

Could a bad battery have anything to do with this?

There is two chips.... the main chip is bigger. It can be inserted with a pin that got bent. I would suggest removing the chip carefully and making sure it is installed with all pins in the socket.... and ionstalled in the correct orientation.

The calpack is a smaller chip.... also in a socket..... which.... as I understand it..... has a "limp home" mode in case the other chip isn't working.... I'm sure it doesn't run well if it is running off the calpack.

I once had a chip that I bent a pin.... did something crazy with the SES light if I remember correctly.

The battery is definately something to fix as well..... however you should be able to hook jumper cables to another vehicle and immediately see if that is what is causing the issue. The SES light makes me think chip/calpack.

The chip has one prong that is slightly bent. It doesn't look like it would prohibit the chip from working properly.

The calpac is fine.

The blinking SES needs to be addressed before you even start the car.

It can only be 3 things:
1. chip is bad
2. ECM chip socket needs re-tensioned.
3. bad ECM

Here's a pic of how to re-tension the socket:

^^ What Eric said. If at key-on, engine-off the SES blinks rapidly, don't even bother turning the key any further. The ECM is in limp mode.

At key-on, engine-off, the SES should briefly light, blink off, then turn on solid. If no blink-off, again, don't bother to turn the key any further. The ECM or PROM is bad.

The blink test can be repeated after key-off for at least 10 seconds (actually after 5 seconds, but some folks count too fast.).

Since you replaced the ECM and chip, it is possible that one or the other or both are bad.

Changed the battery and re-seated the chip. It starts and runs now but won't build past 10lbs. The passenger window still won't go up/down.

Had the same problem last week..SES light flickered, and when fired acted like it was running on 3 cylinders..turned it off and pulled my tt chip out and cleaned the prons with a q-tip..haven't had the problem since..

Is this after driving it around for awhile..... it takes a little bit of driving for the chip to "learn" the settings. Also... what kind of chip? I assume it is for the 55 lb injectors. What is your fuel pressure (vac line off) at idle? You also could have a wastegate puck not sealing correctly limiting and slowing the buildup of boost.
