I am finally getting a new tranny in my GN next week and then the week after i am going to the track.

i have never drag raced this car, and I’ve only been the track to race twice, the first time was in my dads Dakota 4 door pick up (i won 75 bucks that night woohoo) then i had an 84 el Camino with a 350 LT-1 pushing 425hp/425 torque. and then that was stolen... from school on the last day... but any who with the insurance money i bought a 87 GN with 55k on it.

the car is bone stock, except for a cat-back exhaust system and a K&N filter... what can i do to get the lowest ET out of the car... for rubber i got pirnelle (sp?) 225/50/15's

in the future, i want to put a 3" down pipe w/ a new cat, 42 or 48# an hour injectors, eventually a new turbo but I’m going to turn the stock one up to 18psi a warlbo 340 pump (hot wired) and I’m getting a red or something like that race chip... does this sound like a good combo

to tell the truth i want to beat this kid at school with a CRX into the ground, his car runs 13s and i want to show him American power all the way...

what will my car run when i take it to the track in 2 weeks? then what about after those mods? i have a pair of slicks, but they don’t have much thread on them so I’m saving them for after i do the new mods...

thanks a lot

Neil

Sounds like you have yourself a nice car. Not to discourage you, but I wouldn't run the car until you have at least upgraded your fuel pump (hot wired) and getting a scantool/knock gauge to monitor knock.
If you decide to run without these mods, you may be rebuilding the motor next!

Take your time and check to make sure the car is properly tuned before you go blowing the motor. If you decide to run it then pour in at the very minimum (xylene).

tune tune tune

Its all in the tuning. These cars are very sensitive. For instance it was 42 degrees out and i had 45 pounds of fuel pressure and ran a 12.80 and got back around and turned it up to 47 ponds and ran a 12.60 then changed my tire pressure and ran 12.51.So you see its all in the tuning.

225/50R15's are about 2"'s too short for a TR. I would not use those at the track. Something between 235/60 and 275/60 would work MUCH better.

i lied the tires are 225 60 15, and i think i was thinking about getting race gas in it, there is a gas station in the area that sells the stuff, but i dont have a spare O2 sensor... so would it hurt the sensor for this one time? and blackshoebox said he would help me tune my car, but i dont know when i can do it because my car is still in the shop getting a tranny... (http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=63820) and i wanted to go to the track on friday, poop.

First things you need to do before you go ANYWHERE, are the spring cleaning, check the fuel system out and get a pump and hot wire kit.

A good 93 street chip and the adjustable wastegate actuator.

Real properly sized tires.

Boost gauge, fuel pressure tuning gauge.

A SCANTOOL!!!

Adjustable fuel pressure regulator and 160 stat.

K+N air filter.

Use some or all Sunoco GT100 unleaded in the car to kill detonation and perhaps allow you to run increased boost after running it a bit at lower boost.

GT100 won't hurt your sensors.

Just my .02 or you won't beat a 16 second Civic. :(

?

some one said take of the front sway bar? should i? and then i also said something about taking the pinion snubber off because it causes bind in the rear suspension? any other tips? please?

when i go... if i get to go (tranny) i am going to fill up with 100 octane gas, and i do have a k&n filter... do every sunocos sell 100 octane gas? and would i not really be able to beat a civic? because if i cant i'll cry

thanks

neil

I believe you said a 13 second Civic.

There are plenty of GN's in the 14's.

Some with better tires, fuel systems, tuning, etc.

Not all Sunocos sell the GT100 gas, very few actually.

Usually it's available at the track.

If not Sunocos website has a race gas dealer listing for each state. :)

Good luck.

First things first for your o2 sensor you might want to invest in a thrasher chip that will eliminate the need for the o2 sensor.you will then be tuning with your blms. Then also use the 116 octane and you can turn your boost up higher without as much or no knock at all.after every timeslip you get write down the temperature outside, fuel pressure, tire pressure, boost, andblms or o2s.Keep a log so you know if youre making progress and like i said before a small adjustment can benefit you more sometimes than a big one.For instance i hit wot with 3 degrees of knock and then turned the fuel up just 1 pound and got 0 knock so its not always a major adjustment. Its like anything else the longer you play the better youll get.I know a friend at work who has 5000 in his gn and cant get out of the 14s.Speak with cottons performance and youll get very good info.
