Welp, Im not sure where i should post this, I feel i should share mainly with my hotair bretheren.. as to not allow so many intercooled people to see how slow I really went :p

Anyhow..

Got directscan hooked up, made a run

first run *ever*

had Razor in the car with me..

R/T 1.195
60' 2.292
1/8 9.834
1/4 15.374 @ 88.97
Win 2.325

2nd Trip I went by myself.
R/T .692
60' 2.322
1/8 9.804
1/4 15.154 @ 91.50
Win 2.400

3rd run I had razor back in the car (to record a run and monitor with DS once again)

R/T .676
60' 2.301
1/8 9.892
1/4 15.411 @ 89.40
Win 1.340

Now heres where it got interesting, or maybe I got too damn caught up, because I completely blew it!

Lined up with a Camaro RS..
just by myself, i did a small burn out and then staged, and built 2-3 PSI boost.

R/T .803
60' 2.202 <- beat it by an entire tenth.. So this ought to be that 14.x run huh!?
NO!
I left it in 1ST.. it redlined.. i forgot to shift, panicked.. put it in D and the RS got ahead of me..
1/8 10.010
1/4 15.766 @ 85.81
Loss .4744

Hah.. I ****ed that one up SO bad and the RS only beat me by .47?! wow.

Direct scan recorded during my runs, an idle BLM of 105, and for the entire run, O2's around 860-850s :(

So now I have to edit my chip ofcourse.. Not quite sure where to begin.. I know i need rpm and possibly tps trim? in PE ..

how much % affects what though? I can't just toss on DS any time I want, razor lives in tampa.. kinda far .. so I want to tune this to get my blms up at idle, and my o2s reading somewhat sane ..

Now I know you cant tune with o2's, but it is seriously running pig rich.

Oh yea, most KR i saw was about 2-3 degrees.. 1-3 knocks at most.

So what do you guys think I should do in my chip to get that fuel somewhere right? I ended up running 18 PSI of boost purely from the weather being cool.. if my AFR was better I think i could have run a low 14 like i thought i was going to in the first place!

Ok that was a long post! :D

all advice welcome!

how much timing?pump gas?

you are running pig rich, you would have been better off tuning it on the street to good o2's/kr before you even bother with the track.

like i said, i dont have any way of using a SCAN TOOL. that WAS the only way I could use one, by meeting my buddy at the track!..

and who cares how slow i went? the purpose is to figure out how to make it go faster!!

You don't need a scan tool o see your O2 sensor's output. Get about 10' of wire, unhook the sensor and then reconnect it with one end of the wire pinched inside. Then run the wire insdie the car, connect a digital multimeter to it and any ground. Tada, you have an Air/Fuel gauge. ;)

You should be able to 60' even better than that. What's your rear suspension like (control arms, air bag, tire size, open/posi, what psi launch)?

BTW, we all run a second or two slower than we think the first time out. Nothing beats a track or dyno for tuning. :)

Well I checked everyting this morning, FP was 44 psi static, yet my BLM was 105 at idle!?

I took out fuel in the PE range, and 1% for each tps range, and turned it down to 42 PSI.

oh yea, the 3rd run, I got confused, and let up from the throttle half way, but as you can see, the MPH was higher than my first run which was slower..

my second run managed a 91.5 .. so now that I got a bit less fuel in my chip, i figure i'll go out next saturday or whatever, and try it again.

Oh yea, another thing.. while in staging lanes, i was waiting about 3 car lengths or so to start my car and pull forward.. one fo the ricers behind me started screaming the second the line moved 3 feet.. people piss me off!

Your way to rich - All of the hotair cars that I have tuned like 32-36psi static (with stock intake).

How much boost?

and why are you manually shifting the 1-2????

That was a mistake, wanted to leave it in 2 and manually shift to 3rd.

well, how would I get my blms at idle up if i turned my fp down nearly 10 psi!

if they're 105 doesnt that mean it's lean?

105 means it is subtracting fuel - thus it is rich.

Get the car to run good all around - then tune @ WOT. A scan tool is a must. Without one you are lost.

All about BLM's

Simply put:
0=Rich 128=Stoich 255=Lean

Well in intercool cars everyone wants the ideal 128 and 760 o2 volts, should I do the same in the hotair, or does it want aslightly richer mixture?

use the o2 mv as a rough guideline, use knock as your overall determining factor.i'll tell you that you probably won't get anywhere close to 760mv on pump gas with a hotair:).probably be more like 790-810.

run it as lean as you can without any knock at the top of 3rd gear.since the load is highest at the big end,if everything else is copacetic you shouldn't have any knock anywhere else(maybe a degree or two on the shift).

make small changes, one at a time.:).

Arlight, sounds like solid advice.

Hopefully I have a couple test chips being made by a good chipper' and as fara s my own chip goes, Ive decided to trash it and start over with a stock 87 rom, increasing the base FP, taking out some fuel in PE vs RPM trim, and changed the injector constant.

Last I checked, at 42 PSI static, and the chip i made (which has 20 degrees timing) - my plugs look like this:

spark plug pic

So I increased the base fp 2 pounds for now.

I'm currently running straight GT100 and hopefully I can meet up with Razor soon again, and test hte new changes.

I show absolutely 0 knock counts with the GT100, so hopefully it will be good for pump gas.

100 octane gas changes things:)

you should be able to run some decent boost with 20º and 100 octane.shoot for as low o2's as you can without knock, unless you like changing head gaskets.:D.

With the 20* chip, which was a STOCK '87 rom, i lowered the timing 2 degrees on the top end to 20 from about 68%-100% LV8 (Just like i did with my 18 deg chip which worked rather good as fara s knock goes)

I took out minimal fueling in PE, had my static PSI to 44 and my plugs were getting white and I detonated on the 2-3 shift, the knock just wouldnt go away.. so I let off when the red light came on..

I know 20* aint too damn much for 100 octane fuel...

WAs I just running rich? WTF were the plugs white then? the blm's in DS showed i was running rich with my 18* chip..i also had extra fuel in PE .. maybe i should go back to that chip and turn the static PSI down to 38 again =/
