first trans upgrade?

Hi guys/gals, new here. Dan from Scranton Pa. My 87 has 100,000 + on it, stock 200r4 is now slipping into 3rd but still drivable. So my questions are, if I were to re build it myself, where would I get parts and what upgrades should I make while I have it apart? OR, what other replacement trans's are my options to purchase new or re built? Any info will help. Thanks
