Here is a reply I just received this morning from Flaming River Ind. concerning a rack-n-pinion system for our G-Bodies....

Dear Kerry,
This Dept. is not always 'privy" as to what new products are in
development, however, with the additions of rack&pinion kits for
Corvettes', Novas', Camaros', and Tri-5 Chevy's, we are always developing new products, and a rack kit for these cars may very well be in the future plans of the company.
We will however, bring up your request to the owner of Flaming River.

This is a request to all who may be interested...PLEASE drop them an e-mail asking for this system to be developed! Please remind them that the GM G-Body is a HUGE market for them to go after and name ALL the makes this covers inculding our Buick Regal/GN, Oldsmobile Cutlass/442, Pontiac Grand Prix, and Chevrolet Monte Carlo. There are literally millions of these cars thruout the country and possibly the world for that matter!

I for one, am looking to loose the excess weight of the stock steering system as I'm sure MANY of you probably would like to do also.

Does anyone know of any other G-Body specific bulletin boards that this can also be posted there too? We need as many G-Body owners as possible hitting the manufacturer with as many e-mails and contacts as possible! :wink:

Hi "Cheeseburger",

That would be Weight!!

You are able to remove the HEAVY steering box, the pitman arm, idler arm, center link and inner tie-rods and associated bolts and hardware. You are looking at an EASY 50+ pounds of removal from the most beneficial area of the car....the front end ahead of the front wheels!

2 tie rod ends (thou 2 inner pivots within the rack), vs 6.
No idler arm.
With all the linkage in more or less a straight line, it's more responsive.
Two less archs of motion, and resulting errors in bump, and jounce.
